Can Valerio Conti win this Giro?
No, but he can win today's stage and take the maglia rosa. Hopefully he does.
He could hold the jersey until the big mountains start, last year he finished 12th in the Dauphine after ridong a decent Giro and while working as a domestique for Dan Martin. In 2017 he also finished 12th in a rather hard TdS after riding a good Giro.
I think Roglic is going to reclaim it after that first time trial. I can see Conti losing 2,5 minutes to Primoz

?

Have you watched the sport before?

indeed...

this just seems like an exceptionally mundane start to a giro

Huh?

TT-stage with considerable gaps between favorites.
Bad weather.
Crashes, that has shaken up the race.

Things have happened every day.

Kelly has a new leader of the race: Roshlik
He just can't wrap his head around the fact that there are other names than 'Roger' beginning with 'Rog' :D

I have really not yet watched this years Giro. How is the break? Looks like peloton does not want to close the gap. What kind of climb is it?

In the balance but I think the break will go unless 2+ sprinter teams think their man can survive the climb. De Gendt said it's an easy climb and the sprinters might survive, he was up chatting with Jumbo but it looks like they didn't want to chase and LS have decided not to take it up alone.

The stage is not that hard, but very long and yesterday was a very difficult day because of bad weather.

I suppose the peloton could still catch up if they really wanted to, but doesn't look like it.

Stage 1 aside, this race has been a borin' borefest thus far. I thought the Giro of Italy was meant to be exciting and unpredictable and stuff.

They've stacked the back end of the race and put some very long stages up front with the hope of stopping mountain trains dominating the fun bits. It's a slow burn but hopefully it'll work out.

Seems like Oomen being there means that Conti isn't going to take pink with several minutes.

Well I think they overdid the back end stacking. They should've given us *something* by now to keep us entertained & interested & awake.

Does anyone have a stream that works? Tiz isn't working for me.

Tiz working for me. You know you have to keep refreshing Tiz, right? It comes back eventually every time; that stream never dies!

Action movie fan? ;)

Yeah, some stages that at least produced some racing from the stage hunters would be good, but it's still early days.

I for one would love to see a mini strade bianche stage in the first week. 25KM of dirt roads. I really enjoyed the cobbled tour stages. Maybe strade doesn't have the prestige of yet

cycling.today - usually uses TIZ, which has Kirby, but when it goes down it picks up other streams. Currently watching Rob Hatch on their backup stream - picture not quite as good, but prefer that to waiting for TIZ to come back with Kirby!
