2019 TdF CQ Game

Page 4 - Get up to date with the latest news, scores & standings from the Cycling News Community.
Firstly, an update on yesterday: CQ did indeed switch Landa and Uran around, giving very slight changes in the green points and in the scores.

Revised top ten after stage 19:
1 AmisVelo 1776
2 LosBrolin 1775
3 Rote_Laterne 1774

Stage 20 A short lead in to Val Thorens

Almost done, but not resolved yet. Thomas benefits most from Alaphilippe's fall down the GC rankings.

Green points

having been in second place, Search becomes top of the table through his top score today. Only Koronin, overtaken today, can steal the win. Salvarani also moves up a place, and Laarsland eleven.

Standings

Search jumps from nowhere (well, 7th) to wear the penultimate yellow jersey, and Ripley recovers from 4th to second. Nobody else who was in the top ten this morning has moved up the table, but Mellow Velo moves into the ten. Search's move to the top is the biggest jump of the day, as well as the most significant.

Everything will depend on how Ewan does tomorrow.

So, while we wait for the evening race today, we should try to build some sort of consensus about secondary competitions.

When (I think) CQ Manager started the GT games, the only scores given until the very end of the race were the guaranteed points, and I started chipping in with where we would be in the standings "if the race were to finish now", which obviously becomes more accurate as the race nears its conclusion (although situations like Alaphilippe in yellow keep us guessing in that regard).

When I took over the games, I retained the guaranteed points category as a secondary competition. But this year I replaced that with a 'green jersey' ranking based on daily position in points gained or lost towards the main game. This seemed well enough received during the Giro, but people have said during the Tour that they preferred the old system.

There's no point in me spending time on elements that people aren't enjoying, so let's find out what you are interested in. So it would be good if as many of you as would could answer the following, and add any other thoughts, about how we do this in future GTs. Answer in thread or PM to me: I'll wait until Wednesday before collating the responses.

Are you interested in there being a secondary competition?

Should it be based on the stage scores, or the effect of the stage on projected scores?
(On stage 20, would you give Geraint Thomas just 15 pts for 5th, or 15 + 70 for moving from 3rd to 2nd on GC)

Should it be scored according to simply points won by each rider, or the position of each manager on the day?

If we are only awarding points for the stage, should that include leader's points (the 20 point bonus to yellow jersey wearer)?

Any other thoughts/suggestions?

Personally, I don't care about a secondary classification one bit. And I think the pojected standings are better than the guaranteed points but I don't have very strong opinions on the matter.

The red lantern becomes the yellow jersey, as yesterday's top two, lacking Ewan in their teams, drop away from the podium, and so the top 4 all move up 4 places. Three teams managed a final upward adjustment of three places: Scrool07, Ratta Kuningas and Total Package.

The difference between winning and coming second (they had 5 riders in common) was Barguil overhauling Porte for 10th in GC.

Congratulations to our winner, to those who filled the podium, and thanks to the riders, the site organisers at PCS and CQ who I get the data from, and to everyone who competed.

More numbers tomorrow.

Just getting to this. Was out of town this weekend at a Science Fiction Convention. Plan on starting a new thread in general for Sci-Fi and Comic Conventions. Hopefully the pictures are small enough to upload to the page and I have really cool story to share.

Back to this topic. For secondary competition: My thought it should be based on stage points only. Only overall standing and no yellow jersey points. Now I could see points for the rider who is wearing the Green jersey.

My team did well for the green points and poorly for overall as I somewhat expected.

Of course it has to come down to lil Richie and you know what happens if you're the one having him. :D

Well played Rote_Laterne and congrats for the win & thanks for AC hosting the game once again. What comes to the question asked, I mainly follow GC myself.

For the green jersey competition I would say that should be guaranteed points only. Basically the points awarded that day. If somebody picks 1 & 2 on the stage but doesn't get green jersey points because they also had a rider near the top of GC that DNF it seems wrong.

I would count yellow jersey points as part of it

I would prefer a "guaranteed points" and "projected points" overview after each stage. That way it'll show who favored stage riders and who favored gc riders. The first ranking would then become the second ranking after the final stage, which means one competition, and just two different ways to follow the game flow. That's my humble and grateful opinion.

I agree with this right here.

Collective wisdom
The reported Collective wisdom team would have won, but as I explained in the post on day 1 going through the submissions data, that team was over budget, at 4202. However, if I had removed the least popular of them to have made the cut, I could have put in Kamna losing just one popularity point, been way below the budget restriction, and still scored 1961, just below second place.
BERNAL GOMEZ Egan Arley 842

PORTE Richie 156
URAN URAN Rigoberto 274

KÄMNA Lennard 72

The winning team
Well done Rote Laterne: this is how she did it.

As to the review of the secondary classifications, I note that many are not that bothered, but that the non-unanimous preference among those who are is for a stage points only, without leaders' bonuses, table. I hope that will provide interest for those who drop out of main game contention.
