Bernal the absolute best in the race (for the moment).
It bodes well for when he wants to attack and take more time in the high mountains.

I wonder why Remco was so far back though. He still finished 4th but was in the last 5 riders when Bernal attacked. He seems to diesel his way up and could probably still resist a longer attack by Bernal, but Bernal is no slouch either over longer distance. He proved that in the Tour already.

Don't think there was ever any realistic chance of him matching Bernal there or the high mountains.

Looks like race over already, barring Bernal's back problem or a crash. Nobody will be close to him.
Come on man. We haven't even seen the first real mountain stage!

Why?
Its a very different kindof effort much less explosive

My expectations for Zoncolan are Ineos train riding until the last 2-3k where Bernal attacks. It doesn't look like Remco can cover that attack imo.

Bernal isn't really a 5 minute climber.
Neither is Evenepoel.

I'm not saying that it's unimaginable that Bernal crushes Evenepoel over an 8 km attack on Zoncolan and takes minutes. Only that I am not going to make such a conclusion based on Bernal taking the odd 5-10 seconds in short attacks. That was a possibility I considered before the Giro.

Would love to know where Evenepoel is taking time on Bernal apart from the time trial... The last week isn't the Alto Colorado or Foia.

Maybe nowhere, but what happened today is not really indicative of how things will look on the longer climbs

For all the talk about Bernal being superior, the difference is 15 seconds at the moment (16 (edit from 12 s) seconds from bonusses) to Evenepoel, and 21 seconds to Vlasov (less bonus seconds).

I am a Remco fanboy, but neutral fans should be happy that Evenepoel and Vlasov are still there, or we wouldn't have a race.

We have yet to see if Bernal can actually make such an attack stick for longer than 1-2 km. If he can't then this race is definitely not over.
I don't think even the most hardcore Remco fanboys are surprised that Bernal is capable of distancing him in short attacks.

That does not equate to him being able to simply put minutes into Evenepoel over a long-range attack.

Marvellous Sky >>>>> Ineos
Amazing Froome>>>>> Bernal
And Pogacar & Remco as well as JV train as the most dangerous rivals.

Depends on who drops you on a climb like this. If it's Purito, sure doesn't mean that much. But it's Bernal, pretty much a pure climber.

I think Bernal has a pretty decent kick. Not Purito, certainly, but he is far from a tempo climber
