Except it does not attract viewers - You add the sprint stage 14, then four of the six weekend stages will be unexciting.

just disagree. i have always found ITTs to be nailbiting, exciting events.

the recent majority of mountain stages have ended in a sprint for bonuses after hours of complaints that no one has attacked for the preceding 5 hours...

only way to get purer climbers to attack from far is to have them lose a fair amount of time. when you don't you end up with the most miserable GT in years... Giro 2022.

So much of this route depends on who shows up with what teams. I think Croix de Coeur is definitely hard enough to go for broke. It's no jokes harder than any GT climb this year.
Yeah, it's honestly quite hard to put into words how big of a shock Croix de Coeur is. That's one of the absolute monsters of the Alps that I always assumed were only there for us to dream about and were never actually going to be raced. How a climb like that just pops up on the day of the route reveal is completely crazy to me. I didn't even know it was fully paved. Like seriously, this is as if a few years ago we had just learned about the Col de la Loze on the day the 2020 Tour route was revealed.

Part of the reason I'd been meming it is that the image on cyclingcols looks like an unpaved crest of the road but on closer inspection it's probably just the angle

Bro, Lussari is 15% over 5 km. That might very well be one of the hardest stretches ever in pro cycling, my god.

EDIT: I should say THE hardest. What can contest that?

EDIT: And looking at the profile of Croix de Coeur (from both sides) is just cycling porn!

Seems that route's gonna be taking a considerable toll on the squads throughout three weeks and Lussari tt will be the final cut.
Lineups will be an intriguing aspect of the race.

Zoncolan from the proper side and Punta Veleno (seen once in Trentino a decade ago) both crack 15% for their steepest 5-kilometre stretch and are that kind of steep for longer.

And then they climb the "wrong" side.

Seeing the map, couldn't they Include Pordoi and Sella instead of Campolongo?

Not that I complain about the route, it's from purely aesthetic point of view. Passo Sella is stunningly beautiful and I'm dying to see it in action. Plus, very legit climb on itself, especially from Canazei.

Would probably be to long and tough. Would add 2 more climbs that both are tougher than Campolongo and increase the distance to something like 215 km.

Yeah, but Valparola from that side is legit, before it flattens out near the top you have 5kms at 8.4%. That before Giau-Tre Cime is a hard combination.

Don't you take the junction in Arabba towards Pordoi rather than Campolongo. Decent it towards Canazei, Climb Sella and decent to Plan de Gralba and Corvara to join the original decent..

Edit: As @OlavEH mentioned, will be too tough. As you add 3 new climbs ( Pordoi, Sella, Passo Gardena(?)) while we only cut Campolongo.
Anyway, would be happy to see Passo Sella back soon. It's just too pretty.

I'm super happy with the Bergamo stage, even if my hope was that they would do Valpiana immediately after Valcava like in the 80's.

FdAYG3-WIAA0GC3

Looking at how technical the first part of the Valpiana/Roncola descent on the Bergamo stage is (on a rather narrow road) all that talk about the Sormano descent being too dangerous sounds even more ridiculous.
They did it in Lombardia last year.
