5th place is not so disappointed imo. Behind Remco, Ganna, Küng and a strong Almeida again. The place I expected him to be, not bad.Chapeau Remco - about expected, but Roglic disappointed. UAE as I thought could be Remco's biggest opponents - Vine, McNulty and Almeida all showing good form. Onto the road stages!
Even Rohan Dennis had an occasional smile........Comms : You look sad
TGH : No mate I am just calm.....you might be excited but we riders know there is 3 weeks to go
ha ha
That man never smiles ...so sour looking
Roglic is 43 seconds behind with plenty of mountain to go. I don't see the reason for this pessimism, if he is good on the climbs he has plenty of time to take it back.
You could hold a TT in freaking Uganda right now and I'm sure the locals would be better able to have correct timing and tv direction.
I’d certainly hope not after less than 20k on stage 1…Remco not even tired in the press conference
I thought that was quite good. Tough position to be in, he handled it well.Roglic sums it up succinctly
"20 stages to go eh ? "
Maybe I'm being a bit harsh on the RCS given what has happened in the time since they had to plan the route. But it seems to be generally assumed that they only included so much TT to attract Evenepoel, so the danger of something like this happening was there after The Vuelta. In terms of what has happened since, Catalunya just shows that this was an incorrect decision. If Roglič was at 10-20 seconds that would be almost bonus second territory. If Remco can just cruise around from now on it‘s either because Roglič and the others lack confidence and never really believed they could win the Giro anyway or because Remco is so amazing that the amount of TT is irrelevant and he‘s nosebreathing up the climbs.
good. turn it off.I agree in theory it would have been nice if the gap to Roglic had been 10-20 seconds, he would have had do something other than sit on Remco's wheel for 99% of The Giro.
The reality is, and was always more likely, that with so much TT, Evenepoel can cruise round. Maybe it's just me, but I haven't got much interest in watching a cagey fight for the podium after the first day?
God damnit, just 1 second off 15th place. He already stated he would go full out. Top 10 would be a splendid result for him, considering the field and the fact that it is a flat TT (with a bump). But considering the strong field, i think top 15 in this particular TT is more realistic for him. Not sure how decisive the bumb at the end will be.

yeah, McNulty got the jersey, but let's see if they'll change this later on. Hard to believe that he was 12s quicker than everyone else - especially when TV showed a different time for himThey interviewed McNulty, so I reckon it'll be him.
Even a noob sometimes gets it rightYup. Not that insanity is that unusual nowadays but alas 30 seconds at most is my noob guessing![]()
Wouldn't do that. Remco should go for the stage win at Lago Laceno. Proof another point. Kill off Roglic as main adversary.Give the jersey away on stage 4, with a big group in front so he can pass a lot of riders in the TT.
He finished 4th, 5th now after Küng finishing, not 35th or something.
Three weeks is a long time.
I remember him finishing 5th in another time trial once upon a time...

Then, he can lean away the jersey at Gran Sasso d'Italia. Ideally to someone like Taaramäe with a big enough margin that he keeps it after the TT & Crans Montana. Also after Laceno Quick Step is going to have a reference whether someone like Kämna is up there or can be allowed going up the road. No one else is going to chase for that uphill sprint then either.
Someone like Lorenzo Fortunato is looking out for his Giro d'Italia stage victory then already.
Given that we here are some monster back-to-back climbs at altitude I think it’s possible for any of the leaders to have a bit of an off day and get dropped.Evenepoel won't drop Roglič on a climb. He might win a bunch sprint or a two man sprint but "kill of Rog" won't happen.
This isn't last year's Vuelta.
