I haven't been following the Giro too closely this year. What is this about helicopters spreading Covid?
That was exaggerating on my side but at stage 6(?) there was too little infrastructure to bring the riders down from the finish and some teams/riders decided to take an helicopter. For example Soudal-Quickstep. Soon after 5 riders were out.

He was very harsh. He said "it's not a must from the doctor to race Giro. Who wants to race, race. The others can go back home"
And he is right tbh if there is no objective reason (like idk ice on a descent, making it really dangerous).

Do we know who the driving forces (teams/riders) were behind cutting the stage short?

Also need some anti-heros to root against :p

They coudn't at least have started as planned and done Grand Bernard through the tunnel?

And they should really have a backup plan for these kind of events. There are a bunch of climbs in the Rhone valley, much lower than 2000m. Using a couple of them istead of Grand Bernard and Coeur should absolutely have been an option.

Do you seriously believe the riders would have not found a reason to complain regardless?
The weather is not an issue. The roads are fine.

Imagine shortening the stelvio stage 2014 and wheelsuck Uran wins the Giro.

Imagine shortening the Umbrail mortirolo stage 2017 because bit of water in the descent and dumolin dominates the Giro. We miss one of the best grand tour stages of the decade.

Imagine cancelling the Angello stage, there was some snow and mist. on 2016 and Kruijswijk limp to a Giro win. Another legendary stage.

Imagine cancelling the stelvio stage 2020 because it was a bit cold.

At first it was funny to me to read here all the angry reactions of keyboard cycling fans, as if the composition of a cycling stage has that much impact on the your quality of life.

But the more I reflect the more I agree. The beauty of the Giro is stages like this was supposed to be. This is where all the major stories are told.

It's about time race organisers are proactive when the weather is like this and cut down the boring transition stages, rather than letting things get to the point where riders are refusing to ride just as the interesting stages start.

When the riders leave it this late to complain, not much you can do with a backup plan really.

I'm sure the helicopter was arranged by the organisers for SQS before the race. Lefevere said before the Giro that they would get better hotels and things like that. RCS lured Remco here with extra money. Not surprisingly, they were angry when he left.

The Giro should maybe consider starting in mid to late may and ending in mid June. I'm pretty sure the Giros of the 90s used to finish in June

That's what we get from having a more professional sport. True passion is gone, these riders seem to have as much pleasure as I from my corporate job... "Have the morning off and only work in the afternoon? Where do I sign?"
Vine yesterday said that he isn't interested in a Top 10 because it doesn't come with any financial benefit for him. So what can you expect from riders like that...

I disagree.

You just tell riders to go *** themselves if they don't wanna race stages cause they're hard or cause it's raining.

Parcours design in the first 2 weeks has nothing to do with it.

This is all because the Giro has built a habit of bending over for the riders when they start complaining and because of the pavlovian reaction of riders now wanting to quit when weather gets difficult.
