"20 out of 22 teams thinks we should cancel stage 19. It simply looks too hard, and there's some rain."

Mauro Vegni: "Well, the riders have spoken... I have to cater to these riders requets, otherwise they won't come back and it indeed looks like some rain in the horizon!"

Everybody else: What?

Oh boy, let's say this stage bangs, all the people at GCN will be like '80km mountain stages are the future' bs.
They are way ahead of you.

The sycophants have gone from thinking all the descents were taken out "yeah, absolutely the right decision ... rider safety etc." to thinking they might be doing Croix de Coeur "fantastic, this is going to be full on racing from the start"

May 28:

let's be positive.

Maybe a lot of people will try to break away on the croix, and who knows maybe the peloton will be very splitted and some big might get caught back in some break-up of the main group
Impossible to be positive if you're a cycling fan IMO. This is a slippery slope, and there's exactly zero reason to be excited, no matter what they did to the route today in order to avoid some rain in some god damn valley.

Let's be realistic. We'll get the peleton soft pedalling Croix de Couer, a big break goes and takes the stage and we get GC action in the last KM as the favourites legs aren't as worn down today.

Also people seem to make the short mountain stage are exciting argument a lot but forget that a GT is also about attrition. Do this too often and it changes the whole character of the race.
