The Belgian media treatment of Van Aert is pretty normal for the way a big name is treated by his country's media. The love-in with Evenepoel is unlike anything I've ever seen, and I spent a my teenage years listening to NOS obsessing over where Gesink and Mollema were rather than focusing on the important parts of the race.
That's a quite selective view. Evenepoel got tons of criticism after the Olympics road race and the 2021 WCC road race, for instance - both times for not being a good teammate.

Dumoulin was the first Dutch GT winner in 37 years (and podium finisher in 29 before Mollema was retroactively awarded third in the 2011 Vuelta) and also got the Van Aert treatment rather than the Evenepoel one.
Well, you said it. Dumoulin is Dutch. They are not the same as the cycling crazy Flemish people.

You and I both know that things have changed from his Liège win onwards, and even more so from Pico Jano onwards.

I've got the feeling that more Belgians love Wout than Remco, who was a little bit agressive early on and surely after the Worls in Leuven. On social media you get a lot of hate from elderly (40+) people who are competing with their Wout, like Mathieu or even Remco sometimes. We can't be happy even if we finally got a lot of strong riders now in Belgium.

This weather now, gonna be a hard day!

Perhaps mostly because he hasn't really done anything wrong since? Anyway, this is not the place for this rather pointless discussion.

Pinot killing two birds with one stone, as he also really needs to start the descent from the front with his trackrecord.
