by his own reckoning, Remco blew it up by going too fast in the 1st half- OTOH Roglic & G knew what they were doing so......
But how does that make any sense? They have a pacing plan... They know exactly how hard to ride, where. The only reason he wouldn't be able to match the plan is if his form isn't there anymore or he still struggles with injuries from his fall.

People are overreacting to this. Remco is still in a good GC lead. Of course I would have guessed that he distances most GC riders betwenn one minute and one and a half minutes but he's clearly not on his best form at the moment. But know it's almost a week until the next big test and then one of the other teams has to pick it up which is not clear if somneone will do it outside of the last kms.

If the drop in form is because of the crashes or sickness the picture could be totally different in a week.

I think he will come good. But it was never certain what good would look like in the high mountains in week 3. Going into it with a 2min plus lead would have made it more managble and less need to follow others in attacks etc

Hart & Caruso big surprises today - Ineos looked at the parcours and thought, "We need to work on our TT-ing guys" and it paid off today. Roglic looks a bit skinner to me which might explain his TT-ing. Remco went out like a bomb then blew up then dug deep to win - he'll learn a lot today, but how he'll be for the next week will be interesting. He needs a rest day and has to plan to defend against the Ineos duo.

And so it begins…

JK. It really is tough. Riders, at least the ones I cheer for, almost always crash in GTs. Sometimes they win anyways, sometimes they don’t. And you never know what would have happened without the crashes. It isn’t unreasonable to think that there has been some impact on Remco’s performance, but the crash didn’t appear to be so bad that he shouldn’t be able to win anyways if he’s really that much better. Roglic has crashed probably 8 times or so during his Vuelta victories.
I dont even understand what you are arguing here or where the contradiction lies? deny that every reasonable person would think that Remco would crush the opposition on this ITT after the first ITT? an ITT that would suit him to a tee. of course his form his offset, you could see it yesterday and today again. even if the crash didn't look bad one was at 60 km/hr and probably took its toll, but what has that to do with what i said? if Remo had been in form this race would have been over today

He started at the pacing plan. But couldn't hold it for long. Just not the legs today for his doing. Suffered in the 2nd part.

With less than a minute in hand on all his competition with arguably the three hardest GT stages of the year still to come, Evenepoel cannot afford to be outclimbed by anyone in the mountains. Even if he's back to 100% in five days' time, that isn't exactly a given. He isn't out of this yet, but he's definitely not the favourite at this point. Would say Roglic is the likeliest rider, but Ineos the likeliest team to take the GC right now.
