Giro d'Italia 2023 Giro d'Italia: Stage-by-Stage Analysis

If the MTT gets dropped he won't start to make a statement and win the Tour instead.

Jokes aside, we'll see tomorrow(?) what the new stage will be. Couldn't care less if they do a normal stage or another TT, but for Remco it was largely decided he would start here because of the 70km against the clock. He thinks he can gain time there so he should be "dissapointed" that the call was in the last week.

I always said that a Sella Nevea uphill TT would be much better for the race. Same start

Otherwise nothing new, Clown Vegni strikes again. At least this time before the start of the race.
Makes sense as that would still advantage the TT riders more than the climbers. But that is such a dramatic change to the initial TT that is would be unfair to the climbers who are probably hoping to get some time back. (especially guys like Almeida)

Then Sella Nevea from the harder side?
Honestly, just look at picutures of Monte Lussari, there is no space there. How that logistical nightmare got ever approved is beyond me.

it's not like there's a car behind every rider in a normal ITT. I struggle to see the problem, to be honest. Just offer some spare wheels at the roadside and extend the time cut a bit. Not everyone needs a moto
Only top 20 GC riders and each team's designated TT'er (outside top 20). But that would still mean 20 consecutive riders, which might be the biggest issue.

theoretically, they could start earlier than planed, split that group in two, and get the motos down the climb again before the final 10. But it comes with an increased chance of a weather change, of course.

There's multiple cable railways to transport thing down and a lot more space there.

the road looks kinda narrow and wacky, if you consider that there is little space for the fans to stand outside of the road.

From what i read in a couple of italian news article only 6000 will have access to the top of the climb that day, and people will not be allowed to go more than 2km into the climb or something like that.

But are space and transportation the issue here? And isn't there a cable car on the Monte Lussari too?

To me it sounds like the support motos are really the big issue here and in that regard I don't really see the difference to the Kronplatz TT. I feel like any solution they had there should als be applicable here.
