2023 Spring Classics CQ Game

Page 3 - Get up to date with the latest news, scores & standings from the Cycling News Community.
My initial conception included Van der Poel.

Later I decided that it's better to have a few good riders like Turner than one Van der Poel and a bunch of nobodies.

You can see where the problem is. It's in the riders like Turner that included Turner himself. He's got injured during his first race of the spring campaign. :( Would rather have Van der Poel back now.

Strade Bianche. All right!! Lets go Turner. Wait, no that wont work. Gotta love the injuries.
Maybe one of these guys will beat MVDP?

PIDCOCK Thomas - Possibly maybe
ALAPHILIPPE Julian - Possibly maybe
SAGAN Peter - not looking good
SIMMONS Quinn - No, but top 5 maybe?
VADER Milan - No

Race 6: Strade Bianche
Turns out it wasn't the most popular rider in the game or the most expensive, but the second most popular who makes most difference, really hurting 8 teams.

Focus turns to stage racing (Paris-Nice and Tirreno_Adriatico) this week, but before the following weekend (which has Milan - San Remo) there are 4 relatively minor races . But still points available if you have riders in them.

Race 7: Milano-Torino

Not a big scoring race (The top scoring team in Strade Bianche easily outscored every team added together here), but points here are as welcome as anywhere else

A win will no longer guarantee a manager a place in the top ten, and a shared win got Vladimir a jump of 11 places, but he is just outside the cut for this table.. It is probably not worth trying to invent a tiebreaker for 3rd place in this classification.

Denain tomorrow, Koksijde on Friday: will either of those yield many more points than today's events?

Race 9: Denain

Guillaume Van Kiersbulck got 18th place, and therefore 8 points, for both DJW and Vladimir. They also get 65 green points each. That's it.

Salvarani has 2 race wins and a shared win. It's good to see this classification not being lead by those at the top of the main table: that sort of justifies its existence.

DJSprtsch is one of the Dekker teams in joint 6th today, meaning that only Redhead Dane is not off the mark yet, still waiting for a top ten placing.

Devil's Elbow moves onto the virtual podium. There again, it is only ever a virtual podium in these games, even at the end of the series...

This was at least the biggest scoring of this weeks 1.Pro races: proper amounts of points should be added tomorrow.

I believe there must be a mistake somewhere. Malucelli is not on my team :)

I do have Welsford and Tom Van Asbroeck, who scored today, which adds up to 74 points for the race.
I didn't actually look at your team when I typed that, I just thought "If he has 74 points, who must be on his team other than Welsford?" and miscalcuated miserably. No error in your points.

They say it is the easiest monument to finish: 170 riders did so, and apart from those named above, another 30 men selected by at least one of us thus gained 5 points.

Main Game
Huge jumps up the table for Evans and Salvarani, but even so neither is the highest of the new top ten teams. The top three remain as they were, but now 6 teams within 100 points.

Me and @EvansIsTheBest both have MVDP and Casper Pedersen, but that is where our similarities end so our are teams are quite different!

It might be our teams who will fight for the win in the end, if MVDP keeps delivering these type of performances in the next few weeks.
Well I built my team as an hedge against my main game team so at least one of them wouldn't suck. Considering how badly my main team is doing I should be running away from the competition here :D

Looking at your team, you went for a few more sprinters that score in the smaller classics (Van Asbroeck, Welsford, Milan...) but there aren't many of those left so you probably missed the chance to build a buffer. As we get to the bigger events those guys will probably get squeezed out in a way Alaphilippe or Pidcock won't. At the same time my team is super top heavy and there is a ton of deadweight so all it takes is one of MVDP, Alaphilippe or Pidcock not delivering like they should and I'm toast.

Of course all this is moot if Van der Poel can't do enough to push our teams towards the top.

Classic Brugge-De Panne, Scheldeprijs and Eschborn-Frankfurt are three races that are still left where the sprinters will most likely have an opportunity.

As you say, I could need a buffer if Ala is very good in the Ardennes or scores points in the cobbles races that he is listed to do before that. Pidcock may get back as well and pick up where he left off. You also have Asgreen, who may have a good day soon. It will be hard to make up those points, if they deliver big time.

I hope Turner is back in time for E3, Dwars and Ronde. Been handicapped by his absence so far.

For Ardennes there is Bagioli, Costa and Gregoire.

All goes out the window, of course, if MVDP checks out and does nothing from here and on.
