He wasn't preparing for anything! Tour of the Basque Country is a big race in its own right.

Vingegaard has seen the world championship jersey on Foss and now thinks it's just a small race so he doesn't want to take part in it, while he sleeps in his Basque yellow jersey every night

Yes, well, if you disregard any other race where he showed this type of dominance, he indeed only shows this form in July. You're clutching at straws here.

The Danes are very desperate when they try to explain Vingegaard. When has he shown such dominance outside the Tour? Even a month ago he lost the ITT to Bjert, but a couple of days ago he produced the most insane ITT performance of the cycling history.

That's enough about Vingegaard, for some reason he doesn't want to represent his country and doesn't care about the rainbow jersey and has no intention of helping his countryman win it /c

No. It would be better if he was interested.

Well, you can't force someone to be interested. And since he isn't interested, it's better he doesn't go than gets selected - for some weird reason - and "takes" the spot from a rider who would have loved to go. If he would have been the only quality rider on the Danish Elite Men lineup, then I could understand that people think he should ride. However, he isn't.

Djeez. All this talk about a rider who isn't even riding this race. Might as well rename his thread title to "the new Evenepoel".

Because some people think that a rider should absolutely have to want to ride a race that doesn't suit him, just because he'd be representing his national team.

Would it have been better if he hadn't made it publically known that he isn't interested?
Then everyone would just assume that Lund - rightly - hadn't selected him.
Is it right to not select him, though? I think it could be argued that he is at a similar level to Skjelmose (who is selected)on shorter climbs (see Basque Country stages this Tour). He has also been said to be superior in endurance to four-time monument winner Pogačar. He is also a good bike handler which is crucial on the Worlds course.

Of course it seems kind of weird to have Vingegaard there to chase breakaways or follow early moves and I don‘t think he wants to go to a race where he gets to help PEAK KASPER ASGREEN. But in theory Vingegaard could make both the Road Race and Time Trial team. By the way, there‘s also the Mixed Time Trial where still having fresh riders after RR and ITT is important. He could have also done that one.

But in the end, for Vingegaard, it isn‘t sensible, not because he couldn‘t do it but because ‚why should he do it?‘

Don't think he would have been of that good use in this race, but obviously still would be a protected rider if he wanted to. He chose not to participate, and I don't blame him. However, I expect him to turn up on more mountainious routes in the future.

Looks like another half arsed attempt at Lombardia. Again, can't really blame him, he's won the Tour and some nice one week races on top in absolutely dominating fashion.

Im really looking forward to how the Belgians will play this one out. Wout and Remco have big egos, for obvious reasons, and so I don't necessarily expect either of them to play the perfect teammate.

Will Vingo finish just inside top 15 or just outside this years Lombardia?
- stay tuned for the thrilling conclussion!

I mean he has the tools to do better, so maybe one year he'll improve.

Belgiums are interesting yeah , they have a potential leader for almost all possible strategies and having Wout in your wheel ready to beat you bloody in a sprint if you chase Remco should hand them an advantage.

The Dutch have a very similar team, with Van Baarle as their (granted, vastly inferior) Remco, Van der Poel as their Van Aert, and Kooij as their Philipsen. Their advantage could possibly be that they actually seem to like each other. But if it's a bunch sprint, will Van der Poel do a leadout for Kooij or for Philipsen?

Yeah, pretty nice team they have and having inferior speciments in all but one department might help them a little bit in the team work department. Also the joy of seeing the Belgiums loose will make them ride hard.
