The only good TTer after him is Escuela so Evenepoel's probably going to win

Not the greatest field, but it would still be the greatest debut race performance in 26 years

So, I think we just had a direct comparison between the youngest guy and the (possibly) oldest guy in the race.
Evenepoel and Sevilla.

Cattaneo

I could see that coming since the van behind the rider in front of him almost could not turn from behind the barriers onto the road at the start

What happened?
They replayed it on the tv now. Cars following the riders are diverted 50 meters from the finish but the turn is quite tight. All cars are Toyota sedans which can make it but rider in front of him was followed by a van, which already had problems turning onto the road at the start.
Cattaneo was going very strong and was nearing the van just before the finish. I assume he could see that the van would block him so he decided to divert to the other lane to avoid it while the van would try turning away from the road. However, the van driver at the same time decided also to turn on that lane rather than behind the barriers were he was directed to which resulted in poor Cattaneo almost crashing into the van and also having to make some strange detour to get to the finish.

Nice ride. Granted there aren't exactly very many good (decent) TTers at this race, but a win is a win against the competition that is there. Regardless a very nice TT by Evenepoel.

On stage 1 the commentators said there's 1 older rider, but as far as I could tell they didn't say who

EDIT: Guillermo Brunetta of Argentina is 43yo and 97kg
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juan_Guillermo_Brunetta

Sergio Aguirre is also older (but not as old as Brunetta).
EDIT: i'm wrong, he's 2 months younger

It is so much more fun to watch the TT if there is no dominant time-trialist in the race...

I'm surprised Sagan has higher cadence than Alaphilippe.
Maybe not that surprising given he's thinking about the Ardennes.
