Decided that if the tour of Poland deserved a sticky, this one deserved a sticky.

But can anyone give me some names to sollow in the following days, those that are likely to do well at a certain stage and those that are favourites for the overall win?

I give you the startlists with riders to keep in mind, especially for gc.

perhaps you can check of their results on http://www.cyclingarchives.com/coureurs.php to give you an indication. :)

Fabulous post Ryo Hazuki couldn´t agree more ...

Well Rujano is already trailing Sevilla by almost -2m at the moment:

57.- 5 VEN19880612 ALARCON,Jose SUB23 LOTERIA DE BOYACA a 3:01
59.- 1 VEN19820218 RUJANO,Jose ELITE LOTERIA DE BOYACA a 3:01

18.- 61 COL19860611 DUARTE,Fabio ELITE COL PASION-472-CAFE COL a 2:00

and there is not so much difficult climbing to be done as last year ... and Nino has a strong motivated team at the moment and the best TT from the climbers is it ?

There is no Mountain TT like last year so if and I say if ... there is a tie ... this will be a historic TdF like decider >

rujano isn't trailing by 3 minutes, only 1 minute behind sevilla, little more

and the mountains are very hard, it may not seem so hard but in colombia every inch uphill is raced like a sprint. every climb it's mayhem and as for the itt riders, the strongest gc riders with good itt are:

sevilla, duarte, rujano, ortega, montana, they are all pretty equal to each other in itt, only libardo nino used to be much stronger but he's now 41 and not as strong as in 2007 when he was the 2nd best itt rider behind botero.

When's the first mountain stage? BTW thanks to the poster who highlighted some of the favorites. Also, isn't Betancourt going to Acqua & Sapone at the end of the year? And, are there any other of the standout youngster coming to Europe soon? Or will they stay in Colombia. Sorry, I just don't know as much about Colombian riders.

No Acqua and many other teams wanted him but he has decided to stay in Colombia. As has Henao and duarte who've had offers from basically every pt team there is.

Let's hope Colombian teams will set a next step in coming to Europe and hopefully get a wildcard for a gt.

Colombia right now is having the most talented generations they've ever had from 1986/1991 generation there are many top talents. I don't know about juniors too much but I think the trend continues.

Riders to keep in mind for future: the lest may seem endless and that's because the talentpool is almost endless there's no country in the world that has a better youth structure than colombia.

- Javier "El Pito Loco" Gomez, 18 years old and youngest winner ever this year of vuelta colombia u23 and last year winner of vuelta vanezuela for juniors, the biggest junior race in america.
- Darwin Atapuma
- Nairo Quintana
- Jose Cayetano Sarmiento
- Fabio Duarte
- Sergio Luis Henao
- Edward Beltran
- Carlos Betancourt
- Daniel Jaramillo
- Edwin Avila (mostly track)
- Juan Esteban Arango (mostly track)
- Rigoberto Uran
- Camilo Castiblanco
- Janier Acevedo
- Rodolfo Andres Torres
- Didier Chaparro
- Winner Anacona
- Jarlinson Pantano
- Luis Felipe Lopez
- Jeffry Romero
- Jaime Castaneda (one day racer/sprinter)
- Hugo Sebastian Salazar
- Alvaro Duarte (Fabio's younger brother, 18)
- Isaac Bolivar
- Marvin Angarita (sprinter/one day racer)
- Ronald Gomez (sprinter/one day racer, big talent)
- Salvador Moreno
- Heiner Parra
- Robinson Oyola
- Maikol Rodriguez
- Darwin Pantoja
- Juan Pablo Villegas

Most of these guys we will probably never see in Europe unless they come with a Colombian team.

Some have already done some races in Colombia and with much success as can be seen in the giro bio of this year and also Henao in every u23 race he rode last year for the ncup. Also Duarte has won many races in Europe already including the world road championships as u23.

Maybe a lesser known result but equally impressive was last year in subida Urkiola, mountaintop finish:
1 11 ANTON HERNÁNDEZ, Igor ESP EUS 3h48'58"
2 41 TONDO VOLPINI, Xavier ESP ACA a 08"
3 103MONTAÑA, Freddy COL BOY a 09"
4 1 ARROYO DURAN, David ESP GCE a 10"
5 21 INTXAUSTI, Beñat ESP FUJ a 17"
6 32 SINKEWITZ, Patrik GER PSK a 25"
7 107QUINTANA, Nairo COL BOY a 36"
8 22 DE LA FUENTE RASILLA, David ESP FUJ a 44"
9 27 DURÁN DAROCA, Arkaitz ESP FUJ a 51"
10 88 PONT, Gillaume FRA EQA a 55"
11 69 HERRERO LLORENTE, David ESP XAC a 01'02"

Only 18 years old... and he was actually coming back along the climb, if the climb would've been longer I think he could've come back to the first 4.

Stage 4 - Wednesday, August 4 - Barrancabermeja, Bucaramanga - 117 Kilometers ^^

Here the link to stage profiles: http://nuestrociclismo.com/site2010/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1018:definido-el-recorrido-y-la-altimetria-de-la-vuelta-a-colombia-60-anos&catid=44:vuelta-a-colombia&Itemid=147

OK, return to the mountains is in today stage 4 and starts at the city la Ciudad Bonita. This is a day of mixed topography but large in mountainous difficulties which undoubtedly will force a natural selection of the peloton. Technical and cyclists are well aware they face this day and will not miss the opportunity to register on that list.

Known worthy
During this edition, a team sponsored by the national army, Fuerzas Armadas-Ejército Nacional led by former rider José Jaime González. Some of their riders are even partime soldiers.

-The oldest rider is the good old Israel Ochoa. With almost 46 years of age, he is going up for his 21st edition, to the youngest dubuting, Jonathan Jimenez (20 years). A difference of more than 25 years ..

- Once a Belgian rider knew to cross the line first. Jean Philippe Vandenbrande won in 1984 the 7th stage. A 'real' Flandrien and that in the years that a lot of European riders traveled to South America to give it a try: Andrei Tchmil in the early years of his career came closest.

-In 2004, during the course a rider died. Juan Antonio Barrero (31) crashed during the fifth downhill, collided with his head against a rock and later died on way to hospital.

Mountain appetizer: '10 election ongoing at this moment

Tour of Colombia does NOT need ProTour status. The race being full of Euro Pros would fundamentally change the character of the event, not to mention that most of the teams that take part wouldn't be able to participate in the same race as PT teams due to the present UCI rules, except for EPM-UNE and Colombia es Pasión - and then only if it's 2.1 rated.

I'm really looking forward to see the greatest colombian talents in Europe or the biggest euroriders riding in the Tour of Colombia.

no it should never be pro tour. a race being made pro tour doesn't improve a race at all and the colombians will never have that happening. european teams flooding the race would make it boring and cowardly like they race in europe.

Yeah better keep politics out ... this one is still so pure ... but on the other hand a couple of invites in the coming years won't do them any harm, and might even be a must as the sportsmarket is becoming more global year by year and the groupe contenders is drying up.

But if the UCI takes control over who/where/when ? - the end of independance is in sight.

But Liberty Seguros is right in the way that the Colombians can't. close their eyes for it and on the other hand have it both ways, with them competing in Europe, I think that Liberty is more leaning this way as I try to read his good post by the way. There must be a time and place the 2 cycling powers face off ;)

I understand your reasons for not wanting this Tour becoming a Protour. Still I'd love to see this on tv with some good european names racing along. Some pure european climbers to join the carnage.
And I wish to see the colombians on the roads in Europe too. The big guys that is. Like Duarte and Rojas (not colombian I think?).

totally agree it should get PT status. PT is a joke.
I would like to see some young european talents ride here tho.
agree with the 2.1 suggestion.

there was a canadian u23 team that rode the vuelta juventud last year, which is the vuelta colombia for u23 riders. only 1 guy finished and that was david boily, 1 hour and 9 minutes behind Betancourt after 1 week of racing. Boily is considered to be a pretty big allround canadian talent.

Today ^^ a stage starting from the finish line of yesterday, Barrancabermeja to Bucaramanga. A short ride, but today might have some first skirmishes between the favorites. At the beginning of the race it is as flat as yesterday, but halfway through the ride it goes up and they get the first mountain of second category in this Vuelta. The final arrival point is not easy because Bucaramanga is located on a plateau.

Bucaramanga is the capital of the department of Santander (which will host at the end of this season also the Colombian championships ..) and lies on a plateau in the Cordillera Oriental (Oriental one of the three mountains in Colombia, belonging to the Andes). The city has more than one million inhabitants and is thus one of the largest cities in addition to multi million cities as Bogota, Medellin and Cali. The city is also known for its many parks (more than 150 ..).

Start and Finish city yesterday, Barrancabermeja (Santander) is much lower and it is there today like yesterday, also very warm (between 35 and 38 degrees). Barrancabermeja is an important town along the Magdalena River in Colombia and has the largest oil refinery in the country. But it also brought with it, that in the past several guerrilla groups raged terror on the gasoline cartels to seize them. So much war here between guerrillas and the military (currently it is a lot quieter). In this place you go not out eating quickly, because it has a high murder and crime levels, which have also declined of late.

Over the race then. The chances are pretty high that after tonight the Vuelta will have a new leader. Because given the track and the qualities of Perez (plus what forces it took to win yesterday), it is likely that he loses today to the Colombians who are better uphill than the EBSA rider...

Perhaps in the second stage an initial indication of the relative strengths of the favorites. On the last climb of the day (about halfway through the stage, a climb of the third category showed up) were the teammates of Rujano picked up the pace to see how the opposition digested when it went up hill. There were no more than 30 people hanging on (most were subsequently just hanging on). For the elderly, it seems now really over. For Buenahora; Castel Blanco, Ladino and Ochoa they survived this one. But for Carlos Betancourt it went too fast here, while surprisingly Sevilla had it equally difficult. Duarte, Henao, Ortega and Infantino gave the strongest impression on that show of climbing skills from Rujano and co ..

that will be mayhem in the middle of the stage. in colombia favorites don't wait till final climb or final km, they attack on every piece of climb. I'm afraid though they won't show the climb on tv?

The climb is already over, if I read Daotec his post correctly.

But this will probably be in the youtube video for today's stage, right?
