The good thing about Valverde being in front is that it forces the other riders to attack from further out.

Sky and Astana know that it is game-over if they arrive with Valverde in the last steep k. Poels, Yates, Fuglsang.. they all have to go when the climb hits the 9% + gradients.

Yes, thanks to today's decision tomorrow's stage may be great.. all the anger.. I hope :)

What anger? Didn't notice anybody who was angry about today's decision

Anger as in Attack with Reckless Abandon( Probably From Afar if Possible)

I don’t like TTTs as decisive elements in a race, but I don’t like the whole nature of a race being changed arbitrarily half way through even more. If the weather was so bad that the stage had to be cancelled, fair enough. But if the stage can be raced it can be raced for GC.

They were in a tough situation with how the weather was this morning and were expecting it to remain bad for the rest of the day. I think if it would have been a regular stage they would have raced it with GC counting. I think because it was a time trail (team or individual) is why they were more careful about. I'm sure last year's Tour's opening TT in the rain was in their minds. Remember Valverde wasn't the only one who suffered bad injuries from crashes during that ITT.

Would rather have it neutralized instead of people getting hurt if it was terrible conditions in the morning.
I will say when I read the results on pro cycling before reading what happened I was very confused on how teams lost that much time.

Me the old guy: once upon a time, riders were riding a fraction slower, but no helmets, injury reports would show the same ratio of accidents, this stage would have been contested. Results would have been validated. For the winner(s), an epic ride, a massive win. In today's world, LBL '80 would be stopped after roughly 100 km. A shame. Cycling is not just riding a bike on a 75/24 degree weather...

Now Valverde needs to kick *** tomorrow, seal the deal. I think he will. (not sure it this qualifies as an haiku, but I keep trying :) ).

The podium is already predetermined: 1. Bala, 2. Birdy, 3. Poels.. The hill is tailor-made for Valverde.

1-2k: Softer gradients
3k: Getting very steep
4k: Eases out
5k: Brutal gradients

Stair climbing on a bike. It suits Poels and Yates as well but not his closest rival, Fuglsang.

Gautiet, Sepp and Visconti trying to bridge to Kwia on the descent, 16k to go. Good racing here.

Sky are trying to create carnage with Kiry and Kwai but it looks like it isn't working.
Nice joined up thinking by Sky for once.
Yeah. It look like the project is working for now.

So... is it working or not? :p
They are going to get caught. But it's a great set-up for Poels.

Maybe that was the plan; to set-up Poels.
