Laporte got caught off guard because Girmay started his sprint very early.

He just came with so much speed. Laporte reacted pretty quick, gained on him but it wasnt enough to go around.

In the end he could only blame himself for maybe not looking and being careful enough. Maybe dropping the pace too much. He keeps it up a little bit more. Girmay doesnt come with as much speed and doesnt gain 10 meters.

Laporte probably wins this if he would started the sprint himself. He will probably take this one pretty hard and you could see it in his disappointment.

Smart move by Girmay and well-deserved! He is on fire atm!

It was a headwind, starting from the front probably wasn't the best strategy. But you could be right

The biggest tactical error today was GVA not working with Tiller when they were as close as 3-4 seconds behind the front four. He just had to wait until the gap grew.

If the Danish Valverde had made an explosive attack like that from the Wout group, he would have won.

Too bad he didn't took a pull.

What terrible tactics from Laporte, proper amateurish stuff. He tried to attack just over KM out and then got stuck on the front because of it so he had no option but to lead it out from the front. Why on earth did he attack? And then he gets caught off guard from the guy starting the sprint in 4th place

Another four person group with most of the big teams represented, Including Van Anrooij :) Seven second gap

Girmay did a really good sprint. They say it was a headwind, so while it's easy to say e.g. Laporte could have anticipated better, it could also be that Laporte (and others) just didn't have that long of a sprint in them.
In that case you just hope to catch the wheel, accelerate in the draft and hope the guy in front of you will fade.
Girmay didn't fade.
