Girmay did a really good sprint. They say it was a headwind, so while it's easy to say e.g. Laporte could have anticipated better, it could also be that Laporte (and others) just didn't have that long of a sprint in them.
In that case you just hope to catch the wheel, accelerate in the draft and hope the guy in front of you will fade.
Girmay didn't fade.
To me, Laporte seemed like the strongest in the group. But after seeing him treating the Flame Rouge as it was the finish line and and subsequently take the lead for the remaining 1 km in a headwind sprint.. I'm not sure I want to see him winning races again.

You would think that Laporte is 20 and Girmay is 30, not the other way around.
