I think Mäder was one of the best, and he yesterday died from a terrible, violent fall the day before. It was in his home country. I think, everyone now should do what they want to do, and how they feel.
Possibly there won‘t be any real racing today, at all. And maybe that‘s good. I don‘t know.
I mean, apparently, a really good human, a really good person has died. In a violent way. I understand that probably many riders at the moment in TdS are too shocked and too much in grief to really race with concentration and motivation.
It‘s about pleasure for riders, staff, and spectators. But what happened is so terrible that it doesn’t allow any pleasure any more, at this year’s edition of the race…

When footballer Christian Eriksen died (and was revived), the match was continued - a decision which by many was regarded as wrong, especially because his team mates felt bad about the situation. But no-one talked about changing the schedule of the entire tournament. I agree with those who say that there should only be one day with a changed format. That's the usual procedure, and I don't see why this case is different.
But Eriksen didn't get his heart failure from risks related to the sport? Doesn't really matter. There is no particular risk connected to what happened on the Swiss descent the other day. The roads are not more or less safe because of this accident.

DS of TREK, Grégory Rast said that one of their riders was behind Mäder and saw the crash. Given the probable position of Mäder and the position of Simmonds in the finish he probably was that rider.

Maybe they should let Bissegger win today‘s stage. They finish in Weinfelden, where Bissegger was born.

This week Heino Haussler was on a podcast talking about his heart issues and how he tried to ignore them. Although he collapsed several times, had a pulse of 250 for hours etc. Team doctors were the ones who finally send him home.
He also spoke about his self talk and the constant self talk from other riders… no quitting, quitting is for pussies etc.
