If seeing bodies collide makes things better 20 years ago then we obviously have different views of the game.

Biggest club definetly. Best? May I remind you of the 1979 GF that Collingwood was robbed of?

Obviously we have different views... you're Carringbush, I'm Carlton. :D

The point I was making re: the brutality of today's football, is that they may have been more brutal 20 years ago from a thuggery POV, but today's footballers are more skilled AND hit harder, within the current rules. Some of the players of today wouldn't have survived 20 years ago, but, as you say, difficult to compare eras. The guns will adapt to any era though. Hopefully Juddy will adapt to your midfields holding and scragging on Sunday?

And thanks for reminding me of 1979... can you just clarify that one for me? Was that the one where Harmesy hit the ball back into play, from just inside the boundary? To "Bomba" Sheldon in the goalsquare? :D

In your dreams fanboy, Juddy will be too busy looking for a free kick from the umpires. Last years Brownlow was an absolute farce.

Regarding Harmesy, clearly out of play, don't get me started!

I'll be sure to post a picture of the Juddmiester wearing Charlie No. 3 around his neck in September! :p

And don't be too precious ACF... I'm no fanboy... Too old for that... I'm a realist. The Bluebaggers season is heading for the toilet... We won't get within 10 goals of your boys Sunday. But if that Joffa Corfe clown starts that Collingwood chant prior to half time, then, I won't be so happy.

And I'm sure Harmsey was just inside the line...:D

few close battles

There have been relatively few close games this year (that is unless you are a "Cats" fan), which is a shame.

Although the "Pies" may have owned North on the weekend, it does little for the game when there is such a huge margin.

While I (hopefully) anticipate a Pies flag this year I am also wishing for some close fought, quality battles.

i liked you guys when you had burns and bruce djite.
Also your bad A$s defence back in the day was epic :D
Matthew Leckie was also a gun, super quick.

Anyway yeah I agree, coolingwood will take the flag this year no problem ( :( )
still... top 4 is a possibility

I loved Burnsey and Matty - total silk the pair of them'

our backline is always maligned and everyone loves to bag them as far as supporters go.....especally Cornthwaite...only Eugene is liked in defence (or Cassio when he plays there!)

oh Sunday will be fun!!!! A few weeks ago Carlton supporters were asking who they would prefer to play in the Grand Final. How arrogant?!

Coooooooollllllllliiiiiiiinnnnngwoooooood!!

Judd would of only just been in the top 10 players of last year imo. It just proved the fact that he pays the umpires money.

I'd thought I found somewhere to talk footy without Pies fans!!! :p Seriously, I over hating Colingwood...just one of the 'meh' teams now. Having to deal with the media saturation of all things crows & power I hate them more. both clubs scream arrogance whenever they open their mouths!

Arrogant... from a Collingwood supporter?? BWahHaHa. The MCC members reserve has never been the same since we let the vile Carringbush filth in. You still haven't given me the flag count?

Not you too Ferminal!!! Geebus... Paying umpires to win a Brownlow in this day and age... yeah right? Makes up for the one they took off Diesel!

Never heard of John Wren of Carringbush fame? And one reason (there are many!) why everyone (bar Collingwood supporters) hates the Pies?

John Wren - And the hated Carringbush...

Collingwood has always been hated, by opposing teams, loathed even. Who can remember a time that they weren't. They dominated the VFL post WW1 era. But wasn't soley that they did. But how they did. It stems from how they came to dominate. By buying and paying players more than anyone else could. Which was fair enough back then. However what wasn't so above board was where money came from.

One John Wren a patron of the CFC. Godfather of Melbourne's first true organized crime gang slash mafia. Who had more control over over Collingwood and the surrounding area's than the Carlton crew could have ever dreamed of having. With name's such as stand over man Squizzy Taylor on his payroll.

Most of his money coming thru his illegal totalisator actions. One of his den's became know simply as the tote. This would go a long way to explaining why CFC has always been hated. There is a book on it power without glory about his life. By Frank Hardy. It is not all nessasarily true. Frank used much creative freedom. Of John Wren's nature however there is no doubt, not a man to cross. And so the criminal element has always been there. An the hate has been passed down thru generation's, til many just hate without even knowing why?

Come on, you really can't see that they favour him? Blind Freddy can see that. They are arrogant, it is easy to continually spurt out the stereotypes about Collingwood supporters but in all fairness you can't deny that Carlton supporters are arrogant.

btw, the flag count is

16 Collingwood
15 Carlton*

Fixed a couple of typos there ACF... and Richmond won in 1969? So I assume you mean '79? ;)

Thought you might have deducted our 1995 premiership win when we were the only team dumb enough to be caught for salary cap breaches... Thanks Big Jack!

BTW... the premiership count will be evened up soon enough... according to every Collingwood supporter I run into... Not arrogantly though?

Remember.. No chanting before half time Saturday... Have some mercy on us battlers.

c'mon you lot drop the VFL premiership bit - this is AFL start your count from 1990

it's Collingwood 2, Carlton 1

otherwise, if you include previous leagues you'll have the mangy port adelaide rabble throwing in their 36 premierships...

judd certainly didn't deserve the brownlow last year, that was such a joke.
he sucks up to the umpires.

and i agree that carlton are an arrogant club, considering how bad they were for so long, they should really be dominating the afl atm.

coolingwood fans are just dumb and feral :p

Carlton would be dominating ..... except for a few actions of pure stupidity (salary cap issues, keeping Fevola ...)

there is only one thing I hate worse than Carlton losing - and that is Collingwood winning !!!

Sadly - I cant see anyone beating the Pies this year, so that Premirship count will be evened up. :(

Wow-I didn't know this thread was here!

Life-long Carlton supporter,so as much as I'd love to see a big win coming up,I see only a huge thrashing looming. :(

Fevola should have gone years ago, when that idiot John Elliot sacked Britts & brought in Pagan.Argh! Right there is the reason for all those wasted years after the salary cap shenanigans (& we certainly showed those Rugby League boys how to rort a salary cap! :D ).

Though if Geelong can stick their wheels back on,they should still be able to account for Collingwood come September.F*** Collingwood!

no way geelong will compete with pies.
Pies at their best are so very good.

Hawks are a team I can see taking it to collinwood. Roughie was a big loss tho.
Riolo they missed in the match a few weeks ago.

I hope collingwood win this week because it bodes well for westcoast.
Wellingham is a player I like @ collingwood, that's it tho.

I must have been watching an old replay when I watched Geelong beat Collingwood this year. ;)

Based on the last few weeks,Collingwood are better.Hence why I said if Geelong can get it together again.

Id go for ANYONE over Collingwood in the GF....when we beat them in 2002 & 3 were so satifiying :D

Those days seem a lifetime away and against all common sence theres word we might extend Voss's contract (facepalm!) :(

Im wondring everyones thoughts on the last part of the 8 as 6 to 11 is only seperated by 8 points (sydney/freo/Essendon/bulldogs/melbourne/saint kilda in order) should be a good last few weeks to give us some competition before the one horse race that is this years finals. Each team could either make the 8 or miss it due to inconstancy.

Unless there's a massive change in someone's fortunes, the last two spots will be the typical "making up the numbers" we've had virtually since the AFL dumped the original Final 8 for the revised Final 8.I liked the old way better (though after Carlton made the GF in '99 under that system,I'm expected to say that :p ).

Ahhh, shall I remind you of the amount of syringes found in the Brisbane rooms and benches during those Grand Finals? They were all on pain killers and steroids at Brisbane. Is it just a coincidence that they were way more massive and physically stronger than the rest of the competition?

That's because we clearly are the best, Carlton will struggle to make the top 4. If Carlton goes out in straight sets I will wet myself with laughter. That would be priceless.

Cool, an AFL thread on cyclingnews! I am a Swans fan but do not hold much hope for them this season, second week of finals at best I think. Have also been following the Gold Coast Suns a little this year as they are the local team, plenty of tallent there and they should be a finals team in a year or two!

I doubt they were the only ones that were 'chemically assisted'. Having 4 brownlow medallists in your side as well as salary cap exemptions and other concessions from the AFL were far bigger factors.
