I was happy that Geelong won :D

but would have been ok with Mick winning .... so that the EPIC fail of Buckley would be more pronounced.

WHY????? Why would they dump Malthouse for BUCKLEY??????

You seem to be similar to the media. Mick isn't being dumped. Mick openly said that he was quite tired of it alll and I think you could see the strain of it on friday nights game against hawthorn. He also has missed a lot of his grandchildrens and other family events because of afl. It wouldn't be easy to not see any of that. Also, a major reson he isn't coaching is because of his wife. His wife doesn't want him coaching anymore. It is a stressful job and I am pretty sure she wants to spend more time with him.

Don't believe what the media has told you regarding Mick being 'dumped'. That's just bull****.

P.S. So funny to see how wrong Caroline Wilson was regarding the coaches. She said that Mick would be the only coach that changed at the end of the year and he was getting pushed out. Coincidentally, 6 weeks later 4 coaches had been sacked and Mick was not pushed out. She gets so much wrong and is simply a gossip journalist.

dunno.

He is not taking up the 'director of coaching' position at Collingwood.

I wouldnt be surprised to see him in the media for a year or two and then back in coaching. I honestly dont think he's done.

And BUCKLEY!!! of all people!!! he has no skills in coaching. Only has the job because he could play occasionally. Cant wait to see them come crashing down and beg for Mick to come back.

Pies fan - bit disapointed with the result but happy that Geeong were a deserving winner rather than a 1 point loss that would get debated for years.
Sad for Mik missing out.
Lucky for Buckley to not appear solely responsbile for not making it next year.

coming home on the train today was similar to a funeral. dead silent and everyone looking outside dreamily. even getting off the train, all the maggies supporters marched out silently. few little kids upset which made me a bit sad. :(

I had a feeling late in the season that teams were starting to figure out how to beat the 'forward press' that Collingwood had perfected. Geelong seemed to be the ones that figured it out first, and with their overall talent, in retrospect, the result ended up being pretty much spot on.

Regardless of the spin that McGuire et al are putting out there, Malthouse did NOT want to stop coaching. He is burnt out now, but internal politics has as much to do with that as anything else.

Apart from Geelong figuring out how to beat the press, Collingwood, and significantly McGuire, can be very disappointed at how they contributed to their own downfall this year. Distractions (Heath Shaw etc) & seemingly small things can become magnified in finals. The last thing the club needed was distraction & divisions in the coaching ranks. This did happen. Players were telling Malthouse that they didn't want him to retire. Buckley is prickly at the best of times. How do you think he liked that?

Eddie's genius plan backfired spectacularly.

We had a funeral for my dad last week. I don't think the disappointment you witnessed on the train bore much resemblance to that occasion.

Don't be stupid. Of course I didn't mean what you are trying to imply. I meant it due to the fact that people were so quiet and feeling sad. It was more or less an analogy. It has some things that were likened to it and some that weren't. Of course a family member is more significant than sport but that does not mean that people aren't allowed to feel sad because a sporting club that they are passionate about and a big part of their lifes loses.

Anyway, comiserations regarding your loss.

Having said that, if St Kilda don't throw the kitchen sink at Malthouse, they are mad.

He won't go. I guarantee it. btw, I think you are so far off the truth regarding McGuire and Malthouse. Anyway, because it is Collingwood, the media and general public want to stir up a story more than usual because people like to bag Eddie and because Collingwood is the most hated but Biggest club in the country.

Regarding the forward press, you are partly right but I also think that many of our players had disrupted preparation going into the finals and as a team we weren't playing as well.

Mick's comments this morning were interesting. Again saying the opposite to McGuire. From what I have heard, Mick didn't want it to end this way.

yeah i heard that. you may be right although even his wife said that he was tired of coaching and so did his manager but now he has almost contradicted himself. tbh, mick hasn't really helped the situation this year either with all the drama around the club. i still don't think he'll coach next year. end of next week he is going off to switzerland with his wife for a while and generally clubs who don't have a coach like to have have one by now for next year. In saying that, he may coach another team in the future.

I was laughing at Eddie every time the coverage cut to him after 3/4 time!

The only AFL related person I dislike more than Eddie is Sam Newman :(

Again I ask, why do you dislike him?

I have become a little annoyed at Mick after some of his comments in the media. Has come off looking a little bitter and made it look like Eddie has made it up which isn't the case.

Sure... I usually give up after like two weeks though. Can't play season long fantasies with trading and **** :(

I'm generally the same. I'll try this year :p Beating ACF is a big incentive :p

Great round so far. Friday night epic between WC and North with Naita kicking the sealer!

The cheating Dons sent packing by the under fire Lions.

And the Injury ravaged unbeaten Geelong biting the dust at the hands of a equally depleted Pies.

The only irritation is as usual, the incompetent and inconsistent Umpires.
