zoncolan and gavia stages
working for Basso

Vuelta 2010:
Andorra and cotobello stages
a little weak but not a bad day, you can't win every MTF

Giro 2011:
Val di fassa and finestre stages
Yes, this indeed is a bad day for him

tour de france 2012: peyragurdes stage
knee injury

On Zoncolan and Grappa Nibali did nothing for Basso. Nothing.

Too brave remark given how many MTFs Nibali won in GT's

Nibali's favouritism has become a bit skewed based on the TT. Remember that he took all his time on the main rivals on the part that suited him the most: the first half, with the corners and tricky descents. Wiggins absolutely killed him in the rest, Scarponi, Evans, and Gesink were equal or slightly better than him.

He certainly looks the most focused.

riding fast in the first half also cost energy, you can't just simply break the course into each part then compare them

yeah he limits his losses well. Nibali on a bad day loses 30 seconds maybe.

There was that Vuelta stage, Pena Cabarga i think it was, where he went in together with everyone to the 1k to go banner but by the end of the stage had lost 40 seconds on Purito and 20 on Mosquera. in 1k.

But i think this is a stronger Nibali than before.

It costs energy, of course it does. But as Gazzetta estimated, Nibali gained about 2 seconds in every corner to Wiggo in the first part. That's no extra energy spent, maybe even less because you don't need to accelerate after every corner.

20s to JR, that is it. but that is JR's climb, short and punchy

I also think he is stronger than he was in 2012. But anyway, we'll know soon enough. Scarponi also looks really great, better than 2012 as well when he looked weaker then before...

People who said Scarponi's career's done for clearly misjudged him, if he keeps his form up. Same for Evans.

Evans was done for IMO, but now he's really back. Really looking forward to Tuesday.

Scarponi definitely looks stronger than 2012 Giro form.

Erm...so Nibs totally destroys Wiggins in the section (the hard section) of the TT that suits him and then you state Wiggins absolutely killed him in the section that suited Wiggins. So that makes it skewed:eek: Jeez.

I was clearly not reffering to this stage.

exactly like I said in previous post, it is very unfair to break the course apart to compare each section time. We don't know exactly where rider push hard where rider take it easy.

Unlike very technical descenders like Canc and Sagan, Nibali spend quite some energy descending.

Also take into account Nibali carefully prepared this TT months before the race, something which for example Evans and Gesink didn't do at all. Nibali knew exactly where he could take risks and how to spread out his effort. That's why he only gained significant time in the first part, and then consolidated in the second.
