Mega impressed by Berto's 2nd split time and the final result isn't too shabby, 6th mainly among specialists

Yeah I think of those 21s he lost quite a few in the downhill... he's been descending like a grandma latelybenzwire said:Very solid ride for Alberto! All time lost on the downhill? Very happy for him. Maybe peaking in time for the Vuelta?! One can hope...
And don't forget the 2nd part also had 4 flat k's... where he probably lost time to most near the top of that listbajbar said:If only the Tour had 21 mountain TTs... He would win by ten minutes... He was so much faster (again) than anyone on the climb today... No wonder he is so optimistic before any race. This is how he does his mountain tests. And I bet the times are fantastic. But the endurance is there no longer... I cannot find any other explanation. He was 12 or 13 seconds faster than Froome in the second sector (with the climb). That is massive...

But not even overstating. He has always been good in these contexts. Now it is time to rest and then prepare giro-vuelta.arvc40 said:Matteo. said:Short ITT with a tough climb in the middle. This is his bread. Nothing miracolous
Superb Athletic performance, not to be underrated.

He beat everyone by 8s on the 2nd part of the TT. That's pretty huge.
Hugo Koblet said:Very good performance today! And he has even been pretty good the last week. Perhaps there is a Giro or Vuelta win left in him after all?

It's really, really hard to judge. The Alps Pyrenees and Chambery were affected by crashes, and the Alps were affected by going mad on the CdF. And this TT just suits him pretty well, apart from being a little too flat outside that climb.arvc40 said:Hugo Koblet said:Very good performance today! And he has even been pretty good the last week. Still capable of more than Uran in my opinion !

I totally agree. He goes out and does testing and it's Wow I can beat them all. But he tires late as we've seen multiple times this tour.
I'd like to see him go rest and build for a Giro/Vuelta next year. If he wins the Giro; Retire!!!

A lot depends on opposition and route. I think he would've been up there without the crashes this year, but I have a hard time seeing where he puts the necessary time into Froome, unless he buries the latter early on the Peyresourde.
Flat TTs are not great, massive mountains stages aren't great. Think Landa and Quintana on peak are better climbers.
It's gonna be hard. But he'll put up a fight next year too hopefully.
