airstream said:To win the Giro is easier. On the other hand if the Giro will be lost, it would be better not to go to the Tour to shame the name
Contadoraus Schlecks said:Could there be any benefit in doing so? Maybe if he does not go for GC, but can he resist?
If he is considering GC then maybe he sees wiggins and nibali as easier to beat, and a more realistic way of adding to his GT tally this year.
I think that AC's ultimate career goal now is probably to equal or better Merckx GT record (11). He clearly sees himself on seven just now (as do I), and possibly does not want to come unstuck against Froome and risk losing a year.

King Boonen said:Is it possible to send Berto to a GT without him trying to win it though?
LaFlorecita said:I don't think so, but airstream is making it sound like everything but a win would be a complete failure
Red Rick said:I recall one instance of Contador nog giving a **** about the GC in a stage race. In the Dauphine 2009 he was more than happy to follow wheels and helping Valverde a bit in winning and pranking Evans
King Boonen said:Maybe it would be. Cyclist thrive on confidence and if Berto thought he had it in his legs but didn't win, even if not trying, that could give his confidence a knock.

King Boonen said:Yes, that's not a GT though is it?
Vino attacks everyone said:So, AC is doing CI, Vasco and then? Ardennes? Romandie?
Miburo said:I hope Contador does the FW though. Ok against purito it's very tough but i think he can win it.
Roderick said:Contador should better forget about a b-race like the TdF, where even a non-climber like Wiggo can win, and focus on the combi Giro-Vuelta.
First hand Wiggo his *** back in the Giro and then win the Vuelta whilst winning 5 stages to show he is still the best GT-rider of his generation.
Except if Il Piccolo Principe will do Giro-Vuelta also, then Bertie can finish second twice.

LaFlorecita said:Point is both are very unlikely to happen (handing Wiggo his *** and winning 5 stages in la Vuelta)
La Vuelta is probably his best chance to win a GT this year though, if he makes it his main goal
Beech Mtn said:Are we back to this again - Miss Doom & Gloom doesn't believe Berto can beat f-ing Wigans in the Giro?!?! Another sad Berto photo, until LaFlo starts to believe again
