This stood out to me

"That was not a good day and I saw I had no power. I tried to keep a steady cadence at the end, but it’s always the same in Dauphiné in the long time trial. I never feel good and I always lose time," he said at the finish.

Contador may need to check the history books as his time trialing has been far from consistent since his all conquering performance at the 2009 Tour de France.

Weird reaction to an entirely true statement  it doesn't seem necessary.

The sheer arrogance makes me sick

Thx. Well one can hope its partly allergies, but aint convinced it was the main reason

It would make sense tho. Contador always has allergy problems. And with the weather in Europe this year, spring is a few months later than normal. So anyone who normally has problems in April/May (like Contador), now has it is May/June.

I understand the pollen excuse btw.

Today was one of the first really nice days of the spring. Normally I've got the worst allergies in march/april and it's over by june. But now today is one of the worst days I've EVER encountered with pollen allergies..

I'm sneezing the moment i get outside and my eyes are itching/burning constantly.

If Contador really has pollen allergies he must have had a terrible day

man i hear you. it's pretty bad even now
don't you use nothing for it? i use some budesonide based spray, rhinocort, some good inhales before getting outside or before the bike ride does wonders on your breathing
maybe for the pros this is prohibited i don't know lol:D

yes today it's comparable to ospedale pollen festival. but i'm not sure, we'll see on ax 3 domaines. the tour is not the place of pollen, there the diseases disappear. at least i hope

He didn't have any problems in may 2011

But his program gets delayed too if that is the case. It could be too late to get his form at 100% at the Tour during the 2nd and 3rd week.

I was thinking his poor performance was something else.

I would think the fact that he was able to get oxygen to his muscle as efficient as he would normally (allergies constrict breathing passages), would speak to his "lack of power" and no legs. Depending on the weather tomorrow, he may not figure in the finale tomorrow. I guess we'll see if he's searching for an excuse or speaking the truth in the coming days and weeks.

I'm really blessed to be a fan of this man, he's sucking right now but it eases my mind knowing it's him. He'll fight, do whatever lies within his powers to win that goddamn tour. He'll fight back, like always and pull out a good performance tomorrow, i'm sure of it;

@albertocontador bad translation. Enchant you is what your girlfriend does when she tells you she loves you. Not a TT. Fire the translator

I think that the problem is that Contador already won a lot... he is not with the same motivation... in the other side, Froome did not win nothing big yet... so we are seeing the results...

No way he will win... I would love to be wrong... but it was not only allergy.. he is not in top form...

I would think he really wants at least the stripped results back on his palmares

If its a Riis plan its too clever for me,Contador hasnt looked right all season since his first outing,at this point only a fool would bet against The Dawg for the Tour.Sincerely hope i am wrong, but AC doesnt look remotely like Vuelta '12 version never mind TDF 2009.The Tour is gonna be a Sky train snoozefest if this continues.:(

Disagree somewhat. For excitement in the TdF, we need Contador healthy but not too strong. If Contador is behind but still within striking distance, the fireworks are sure to follow.

If he doesn't have the legs, or if he does but is too strong, then we'll get a snoozefest. Don't trust Andy to pick up the slack. Valverde and Purito might be able to, but the parcours is not that of the Vuelta, so their chances are hindered.

This is bordering on the ridiculous.

Contador is terrible in an ITT in a warm-up event for Le Tour and the world is about to end!!

Froome will still be looking around for Contador on every significant stage during Le Tour. That sort of 'hoodoo' is priceless. Don't Panic.

Hi peeps im not hating, i want Contador to at least fight in the TDF, but this will get messy for Contador fans because Contador has never been dominated, Froome is going to KO Contador's hopes of winning any TDF in the next few years he is already 31 in dec(Not two old) but Froome is younger, stronger and better in all conditions. And thiswill explode because Froome is owning, he is different to Wiggins, attack Froome and he dont need a train hell make you looks silly.

Fuente De people... Attacks will come he is a fighter and will always be. Froome may or may not crack but Alberto will test his desire/ability to win the Tour. I'm not too concerned yet, if he has a disaster in the mountains and Ax3 then maybe I will start to doubt. But for now I believe there's a plan being hatched by Saxo to peak fully for the Tour. I hope today was a bad day.

What is it i have said that you disagree with? Slightly confused...

I just reread your post. You qualified the conditions that would make the TdF a snoozefest. I misread that, so I do agree with what you wrote.

Apologies for the confusion.
