I'm curious how an expanded version of both lists would look like. I would certainly not rule out guys like Uran, Heano, Bentancur, Mollema, Scarponi, Aru, Van Den Broeck, Basso, Tejay, Evans, Pozzovivo and Dan Martin.

Lol @ where you have placed Nibali. Just a tiny bit better than Valverde, and clearly worse than both Purito and Porte. Ridiculous.

Last year he was pretty good as well, though, in Oman and T-A (apart from the brutal hilly stage which took its toll on Froome as well) and in like half the key Tour stages, particularly Ventoux and the second ITT. I think some of the posters in this thread are underrating the 2013 Contador a fair bit.

Pretty hard to compare riders who didn't target the same GT last year, though Purito being clearly better than Nibali is not inconceivable to me - assuming this is GTs only. Purito was on fire in the Alps doing most of the pacing on Alpe d'Huez and Semnoz and posting great climbing times.

Nibali had a great season, but the Giro had a weak field, and the key mountain stages were cut short. In spite of all that, he still wasn't able to really distance Duarte, Uran and them on Tre Cime. Nibali would have lost bucket loads of time in the Alps had he done the Tour, IMO, but it's all speculation, of course.

Man,I know its hard to compare,but put Porte almost at the same level as Quintana is ridiculous.
Nairo beat Porte in Vasco and in TdF he was clearly better rider too.
And Nibali is way too low.

The second TT was the only time you could say he was truly at his best.

The stage in the Dauphine where himself and Froome caught Busche coming into the finish was another one also. It's just in comparison to Froome being red hot at the time that takes the gloss off it. It was a good performance in its own right.

Quintana and Froome were miles infront of the rest in pure climbing. Froome showed some weakness in the last week on D'Huez etc, which Quintana did not, but Froome in the 1 week stageraces + Ventoux and AX-3 puts him a little bit higher over Quintana (this is last year mind you, this year I would guess Quintana to perhpas be a little bit sharper than Froome.)

The rest is up to who had a good day etc. But I would put Valverdes chances to be the lowest to drop any of the others. AC was just weak (perhpas cause he was trying to follow Froome at ocations, but the Semonz stage gives me a bad impression of his climbing last year)

By the normal standards for a bike rider it was a very decent year. 95% of the peloton would be happy to have his 2013 results. Compared to the normal standards of Alberto the 5 (7) time GT winner it was abysmal.

I said "pretty good" not thermo nuclear. He shouldn't have tried to follow Froome's attack on the Ventoux, which cost him a fair bit of time, IMO, but it was a solid performance, all things considered.

His first TT was solid as well. He was only about 1 km/h slower than Kwiatkowski and Porte

It's been a while since he has performed to those standards, though. 2012 Vuelta doesn't really count as that form wouldn't have been enough for a TDF podium, either.
