You need to make clear to yourself what exactly your hopes are and what your expectations are. You can hope whatever you want, as long as your expectations are realistic.

I don't understand this. Yes he got beaten by Ulissi. He also got beaten by Majka, Moreno and Pozzovivo. He beat Valverde. I don't see the point. 5th is okay. Even when he was still good he didn't win everything. I don't see how it's "sad". Sad would be if he finished in the gruppetto.
