I don't know the math of it all, but on twitter it says he covered 2.43km in 7:01. EDIT: translates into 33.4 kph

Somewhere around 6.5-6.6 W/kg if my math is correct

I was wondering the same thing.

Report card for Alberto today: *optimistic but not excited yet*
a glimmer of hope. Considering winning 2.5km @9% gradient (won stage)

Froome won 5.7km @ 10.5% gradient. (won the stage + will win overall)

It's a little difficult for direct comparison. Froome probably a little ahead of Bertie as far as winter training. We'll see more confirmation at TA.

I agree with the extra kilos. I noticed he looked too "healthy" for a top pro level biker. I thought may be muscle mass is the new way to climb? Maybe he is planning to gradually slim down towards TDF.

Anyway according to Costa's diary he attacked first and Contador responded and countered with Kwia on wheel. Kwia eventually got dropped and Costa passed him (which i think is what is happening on those photos).

It hard to judge on one picture and the performance on one climb but it does appear he is going well and still have room for improvement

He's worked on his position almost every off season for a few years now

So I bet the sliding thing hasn't been fixed.

I have to say that he does look like the incredible hulk. Very muscular. naaah... as long as he can attack with his signature attack, and stay up front who am i to judge?

We're talking about Kwiatkowski, a talented young allrounder, but not a superclimber (at the moment), and Rui Costa, who has to ride really good to get even top 5 at the Tour.

He looks sharper and better for sure, but perhaps he's on his Vuelta 2012-level. Lets wait till he faces Froome, Nibbles, Purito and others.

True, but i think everyone (including me) wants the old Contador back. Just because i think he's the only one at this Tour who can challenge Froome a little bit in the mountains. I don't want a ''fight'' between Nibbles and Froome, then we can hold the ceremony already at the first day.

Yeah, I don't get all the oohing and ahhing in this thread over Contador's performance today. He was a favorite for this stage going in. If anything I expected the time differences to be a bit bigger, more in line with 2010.

Yea laflo is right. Contador needs his godlike level again. And even if he has that i'm not sure he can beat Froome.

I'm glad he's winning but to win the tour, he'll need a miracle tbh.
