Having dislocated my shoulder a few times, i can say they were quick recoveries. I think where problems can arise is when connective tissue is affected adversely, so it will probably come down to how the dislocation occurred as someone else mentioned.

He'll be absolutely fine. The drama queen.

Thank you!

I don't know why people are making such a stink about a dislocated shoulder.

Like I said, if Hamilton was able to ride with a broken collarbone, Alberto will certainly be able to ride with an inflamation.

If he doesn't, it won't be because of a shoulder inflamation, which can be treated with painkillers so that he can ride the entire stage pain-free.

I hope he was acting at the podium and Porte/Aru will attack him big time on saturday and he'll counter them :D

I saw his face looking real worried when he crossed the line, but this picture... He just looks like he's supporting his body, can't imagine he could do that if his shoulder was dislocated. Maybe it's best to leave the rumours aside, and probably watch him get up on his bike tomorrow again.

Vidarte just confirmed a dislocated shoulder to AS. He also has a sore knee. They think he can start tomorrow.

*if* this is truely the case, i would bet the everything i own alberto will start tomorrow - starting and *finishing* the stage would be another matter.

note: i am NOT doubting the veracity of flo's post quoted above. assuming this diagnosis does not worsen, i believe alberto will start tomorrow no matter how sore he is. having the heart of a true champion, he could not not start of abandon until his body told his heart "bertie, it's no good. next race, more."

Depends on the painkillers I guess, doubt he'll be allowed to take the good stuff[/quote]

Anything up to Tramadol is WADA compliant without a TUE (though that requires a prescription in most places)

Tramadol most certainly is pretty potent.

Don't understand how the hell he rode to the finish line. Didn't he notice something?!??
That probably suggests it wasn't something super terrible...

Always immediately after the crash the rider's instinct is to continue. 2011 TDF I remember VDB trying to continue, Horner zombying 20k to the finish line without knowing what was happening, Vino trying to get back on the bike despite injuries that forced him to announce retirement a week later.

Excuse my ignorance , but how can he ride with a dislocated shoulder?! It's.impossible ?!

I think we vastly overreact here. Once you have a shoulder dislocation you suffer the probability of having one again assuming your shoulders gets exposed in unnatural movements such as laying in bad angels, too fast movements and that it gets severly weakened, then the risk is there that it will pop out again and the more it does the more in need you are for a operation. Riding a bike shouldnt pose a problem though and his ambitions of winning is only mental. You gets swollen and feel a bit aching but when the first emotions blows over you can pop it back for yourself. I play floorbandy so this is natural for us and i have had this issue many times.

I understand why AC looked devasted earlier. At that point he couldnt even move his arm and at the same time didnt feel it. It just hanged drop dead and that is a horrible first time experience.

Dislocated shoulders: I've seen people pop their shoulder back in themselves and walk it off like it's nothing; I've seen people in excruciating pain for weeks. Any speculation at this point would be, well, rather pointless.

Holy Crap....goodbye double.....even if he can ride he can't be at the level needed to win the Giro :(

I've had a dislocated shoulder once that hurt like hell. They popped it back in and it hurt some more, but that was it.

Ofcourse it can be worse, but I hope not!

Yes and you were riding the Giro to win right? You are unbelievable :( Go smoke some pot....
Which is presumably what most Contador fans will be doing this evening considering at least half of them are from Holland ;)

I don't believe you are this ignorant and assume you are trolling.
Huh?

Are you saying half of Contador's fans aren't from Holland?

:D

I'd do some right now, but I gave that stuff up 20+ years ago, in my 40s LOL! But I sure did enjoy Cheech and Chong at the time :).

Geez I hope he can take something that will allow him to function. But it just seems extremely unlikely that anyone, even Contador, could win the Giro after dislocating a shoulder :( Saturday looms Large....major show down.

If he decides to continue that means he'll be fine. We'll have to wait until tomorrow's stage ends.

But Contador won't continue when he knows he can't win it, so we'll know soon how bad it is.

I wouldn't be surprised if Contador wins on saterday, you never know with this guy.

I'm not dutch hitch, please stop the insults or i'm reporting you.

This. Really depends how long it was out for and how much trauma it caused to the surrounding tissue, ligaments and tendons.

We will find out tomorrow...
