Contador claiming day off.
As he always does. He will bleed more time tomorrow and on Thursday. He's talking about changing strategy (bless him) but he is just not good enough. Giro-Tour too hard.

Contador admitted he had a bad day. At least that. There is some hope I guess.

That's bs, he also said that 2 years ago.

When Contador has a bad day he doesn't lose 3 min, not a good Contador. Forfeit the race and go for the vuelta.

I still think he should do the tour next year, and don't run away from froome by doing the giro. He's clearly not 100% but i doubt even the best Contador could have followed that maybe '09 contador...

I really hope Contador drops out of the race tomorrow. He shouldn't race the vuelta either. Prepare for one last tour next year (and possibly vuelta after that) and then it's time to quit.

This **** is painful to watch.

Last year gave reason to think otherwise, but now I'm all too reminded of Lemond's end.

Look at the bright side guys. Ryo can now shut up about Quintana being the greatest climber since Pantani :D :D

But he won't, that's the problem :D

Last year we were going at it each other and now we're again at the same corner taking the hits lol

What else is he going to say. That he can no longer climb on the level of Tejay van Garderen?

I epxpected the place (sort of), not expected the gap though. But I am not even depressed. I just laughed. What else can you do. Richie bloody Porte just blowing away Quintana like he is on a Sunday ride. Comedy.

I know what you mean - I was expecting to be far more upset but Porte's performance just made the whole thing fairly comical.

One thing that's good for the Tour now is everyone has lost so much time that any tactics teams were thinking of have gone out of the window, all the favourite's teams just need to attack on all the mountains, if they leave it to the last one they may as well all pack up and go home now.

He had to try double when he was at the top , 2009-2011 . Unfortunately , it's late. I hope he gains the shape to go for at least a stage

What will be painful to watch is him going for a stage victory and not being chased as he's no threat :-(

Relax guys, you have to give it up to Dawg, and congratz to SKY, just didnt like Porte attitude.

Contador is not going to quit and He is not done for, He just win a Giro with no team... come on guys.

This is not his tour and that's it. No excuses, Dawg beat the whole field fair and square, and Porte and Thomas. ;)

I can be mistaken but alberto was sharper in terms of fit last year especially on the dauphine and tour... maybe overweight, no?

Same was said in 2013, don't tell me you're gonna fall for it eh?

Sky has by far the best team too so nothing will work, it's over. Accept it and move on.

One month ago, Froome wins stage 7 @ dauphine by 17 seconds over TJ. He wins stage 8, 18 seconds. Fair enough. One month later, he wins a stage and beats him by 2:28. He got that much better in 30 days? Im pretty skeptical.

Alberto got lit up today. He looked older @ 32 than Armstrong @ 38. It was REALLY bad. He needed a Hoveround just to get him up that mountain.

Yeah this Tour is done, but He is not done as a rider, that was what I meant.

Dont be fatalists guys.

This is another Tour for SKY and Dawg

Yes it's a sad day. At least he has the Giro win so the year isn't a toss (like 2013)! Kudos to the man for trying the Double at least.

OUCH!

That was an epic beatdown. AC no chance, maybe can try for 3rd place. Face off with TJ; lol.
Focus on the Green TS.

Astana has already named Fuglsang as Team Leader. Probably will hear abt some injury to Nibs soon.

Nairo will take White and Second. Fight for Third is on.

Porte good shot at KOM, esp with Geraint in such form.

He can't abandon.
It would be disgraceful.
It wouldn't be, no shame in admitting you're not up to it. But he won't.
Would be disrespectful not to ride the distance.
He can ride for the podium, stage... Team!

Even in stages like today when Contador loses so much time, he does it with style and grace. Yes, he might not get the double, but the fact that he tried it, twice, is legendary. Not only the Giro and Froome stand in his way of achieving the double, 'behind the scenes' a lot of people don't like the idea either. His whole career is full of setbacks and amazing achievements. He's the only rider who brings out so much emotion in people. On and off the bike.

And yes Saxo need to rethink their strategy like Contador said.

With no team was Uran, Contador had a very strong team as we saw in the TT, that was pulling 80 % of the Giro. I can demostrate that. Astana had a little bit stronger team, but if Contador wasted his team in all the stages, evebn without pink, to be allways on the front, Astana was clearly superior in the key moments. But Saxo was the second team.

Today Kreuziger showed that would have been better that Contador worked for him,a s in 2013. after all the work kreuziger did in the flat stages, echelons, positioning for contador and so on, that is a big waste of energy than contador he was not very far.
