Sucks balls that Movistar killed the race by chasing down his attack with 74km to go and then he got really unlucky on the descent. Would love to see him just animate the race just for fun now :) Attack from kiliometre zero pleaasseeee.

I saw an interview with Mick. He said the road was very bumpy and he thinks Alberto front wheel hit a bump and slid out from under him, but he hadn't talked to him.

That's what i thought so too. Because there's no way AC colliades with rogers. I saw rogers crossing the line way before Contador showed up. So the one with him must be kreuziger then? Majka was upfront.

Really pathetic seeing Movistar being more focused on catching Contador and then distancing him after his crash, than they were on pressuring Froome. Only Nibali and Contador seem to have a greater will to win than fear of losing in this race...
We need an alliance between Astana and Tinkoff-Saxo to make this race interesting.

Luck is not on his side the whole year. Thunderstorms were forecast for today, again not materialized. What's the world coming to when a Froome and the best climber since Marco Pantani can stay with Nibali on this descent, albeit dry, and Berti of all people crashes? Next time round it'll rain cats and dogs, I hope.

So did Mick and Alberto collide causing the crash? Yikes!!! Bad day and he was looking pretty good up until then :(

no i don't think so.. i saw mick rogers roll in way before alberto...

Mick was with him at the time of the accident and finished 3+ minutes behind Alberto. You saw Majka....

See my post above re what Mick had to say.

Well, I feel really bad for Alberto. Onto next year now, a proper preperation for the Tour to be at 100%, win it and then a perfect finish at the Vuelta.

Following wheels isnt that hard.
Plus Froome has much better history on descents than Contador. Just look at the number of crashes....
His terrible descending is another myth without any base.
I am a bit surprised that Nibali didnt ride away but others were just watching his lane and following

Who has crashed most on descents, Andy or Nibali? Who is the best descender of them?

Huh? It was most certainly Mick. Mick finished 5 minutes behind AC.

Not according to Mick rogers:

Michael Rogers (Tinkoff-Saxo), talks about Alberto Contador's crash

"It was a really bumpy corner and we were going so fast that you just, that I suppose, he hit one of those bumps and his front wheel slipped I believe.

"I don’t know [how Contador is doing]. I haven’t seen him. I think he was alright. We got his chain back on quite quickly and got him going again. It’s a bit unfortunate, but it was a very technical, very bumpy descent. Unfortunately that’s the way it is."

Hard day, but that's cycling. I hope he didn't hurt himself, i don't think movistar will ever let Contador ride so i would aim for a stage win.

Next year, i hope we can see the best Contador again and that he makes many people swallow their words.

I saw that interview also, see post above :).

Fine. I dont remember single race or stage that Froome lost because of descent though. Plus in 2013 you could see that Contador almost took him out but he managed to stay on the bike (Spaniard didn't), he handles the bike great, looking good on cobbles and not falling despite wheel broken beyond repair by Nibali.
There is no evidence of him being bad bike handler other than elbows sticking out.
So far on descents (and cobbles, and flat stages, and climbs, and hills) Froome >= anyone else

I remember Flo once talking about how the Tour is bad luck for Contador (or something to that effect). She was right, I think he would be better off focusing on the Giro and Vuelta instead of the Tour. He's only 32, he could probably match 5 Giro wins. Maybe even get 6 and break the Giro record, that would be fantastic and would cement him as a legend of cycling.

Maybe even go for some one day classics as well.

Hopefully he's not hurt and can salvage the Tour with a stage win or something

I hope he didn't hurt himself, but I think he has. Because he when he was passed after getting up from the fall he wasn't that far behind Thomas and Gesink. And he still lost a minute to them. A good Contador would've caught them easily.

To be fair, I thought the double was quite possible but I don't think so anymore. Not in this era without external "help" you had in the 90's. It's impossible to come out of the Giro and compete against rivals who planned a mega peak for the Tour.

Maybe it is, but it needs incredible circumstances like Nibali's last year when all main rivals crashed out, and the field shoudn't be as strong as it is this year to be able to do it.

Maybe he couldn't descend as fast as he wanted to on Sagan's bike? Or maybe he was indeed hurt :(

That (Sagan is taller, probably not a good fit), and he switched back to his own bike at the start of the final climb which probably cost him some more time.
Anyway of course that crash hurt him, not sure if it will affect him too much in the coming days but a crash always has an effect.

What? Froome couldn't stay with Sagan for more than a few corners.
