Does anyone know how he is healing after week 1 (of 2) of 'complete rest'? Is he following doctors orders?

Agree with Miburo. Today is a day we're gonna miss Contador. In '09 or '11 shape he could have shred the race to pieces.

Yes it's a pity we're not in 2009 anymore. Or maybe 2011. Or perhaps 2014, but with no crashes.

But don't worry too much - apparently the 2016 virtual Alberto Contador is still participating in this current Tour, has won every key stage, and is going to be the overall winner in Paris by at least 15 minutes.

From all the non-sense we can read in here, if he was in 2009/11 form, his attacks would be so powerful he would make time run backwards and at the end of the year he'd win not only the UCI ranking, but also the nobel prize of physics, given to him by Einstein himself through a time loop.

If he was in that shape, then today only 50 riders will make the timecut.

Ok i'm prob giving those 50 riders too much credit, 30 prob only make it

You are underestimating Contador now!

2 weeks of full rest became 1 week (prob even less) so he's doing really good.

Source? Specifics? Or are you just making that up? :D
He posted a video on instagram

Thanks! So he made it 1 week!

"First bike ride, very soft and With some discomfort but happy to start riding."

He just cannot obey doctors orders!

I guess the 'very soft' means that the locals on a ride saw him fly by.
On his video, his SRM shows ~180-220W, pretty soft for him but for Sunday riders, really fast :D

In fairness, he did say right there and then (during the conference) that he wasn't going to do what the doctor told him aka the two weeks of absolute rest. Alberto said he needs to maintain his fitness, doesn't want to lose his muscle fitness; so said he was going to do whatever possible to arrive fit at La Vuelta, be it doing short and light rides or just spinning the legs on the rollers.

won't Hernandez be part of the Vuelta Team?
I'd assume so, though Jésus isn't the most reliable domestique. I remember him suddenly climb well on the Ancares when he wasn't needed anymore  .

maybe not the best but surely he's reliable to Alberto..

@ Carols:

It is easy for words to get lost in translation. Already read a couple of tweets were people are acting as if he's lying when it was the doctor who said he needs the four weeks of recovery. And some of them where even from Spanish speaking people! So it's all good! :)

After the big disappointment in the Tour I'm excited for the Vuelta. This will be just like in 2014 guys, the form is still there. I will be at the podium in Madrid when the man Guillen hands him his 4th Vuelta. :D

My God, Cycling needs Contador, just to be in the race makes it better

Why? Contador is absolutely done. He has been getting destroyed by Froome year after year. Injury or not, he would be destroyed by Froome. What I'd like to see is prime Froome versus Prime Lance Armstrong. That's the only way Froome gets competition. Not impossible to do, just need a Delorion, Michael J. Fox, and an old white guy who doesn't dye his hair black.

Well, a 2009 Alberto Contador would be great too. I can see the 3 of them sprinting up Alpe d'huez or Ventoux.
