Kinda would not like it to be meyer as I want to see the guy across europe more often instead of being on the road and track. A guy who will get results in the jersey.

Same with RR. Hardly saw Travis Meyer in our national jersey this year.

It really doesn't matter if you can't see it in action. Whoever won the jersey, deserves the jersey.

Meyer outboxed a break with 4 Fly V Riders in it. He deserved to win so even though we didn't get to see the jersey much, it doesn't matter. The best rider on the day won and watching the jersey in action should not be a priority.

Not saying that he didn't deserve it but it would be nice to see the jersey in more of the big races. Also would like to see the aussie champ succeeding in it

What time should the crit at Williamstown start 5th Jan?

ACF has been kind enough to put up all sorts of useful links in the original post. The start time info is easily found on the Jayco Bay Crits link.

Yeah, I'm sure he deserved it. But the international exposure is a lot better if the National champion shows his strength at international top races... Something that Travis Meyer didn't do if all people can remember is two races (of which one is of decent level) where the guy got in brakes.

Yeah well if people want to see the national jersey in higher European races, then more Australian pros need to come here in January and race. This year there weren't many top pros at all.

agreed. it is also in the middle of nowhere and you'll have to park far away from the course to watch the event. The area surrounding the course is just farmland. Original courrse was a good, hard course. It is also far too straight. A bit more technical would be better.

Did any of you check out the google maps of the course? There is a slight error that I couldn't avoid from B to C I think.
Yeh it's missing a few turns on the run out of town that make it a tiny bit more technical.

Pretty depressing course though. Flat, dead, windy. Couple of train lines to spice things up, and the little kicker hurts like **** so close to the finish.

Unfortunately, google maps wouldn't allow me to use that road as apart of the course because it is such a tiny, insignificant road. 3/4 of a normal car lane. Quite a few parts of the course are like that. Really bizarre course. Personally, I think they changed the course to the one for next year because they can close down the whole course off whereas the course around Buninyong there were other motorists riding around behind the riders.

OK Got it
1:30 pm - Support
2:20 pm - Elite Women
3:30 pm - Elite Men

I see they have added "2011" to that site since I last checked too.

Can the people who have went to the road race in the past tell me if you went by train? On the site they suggested to go by a vline train but to walk from the station to the course would take 2 hours (according to google maps).

Eneco Tour

Also Tour of Romandie, Tour of Denmark, Bayern Rundfahrt... lots of European races (3 PT races) for a youngster. I'd say that's decent exposure.

So Jono, are we going to see you all Tangerine'd up in Ballarat? :D

The only things i can think of are

1) Growing unrest with locals, every year there is a petition from local traders etc to get the race moved out of the area. Some love it. Some hate it.

2) Back when the Ballarat GP used to be a 3 event NRS race the TT stage was around the learmonth circuit so Craven can get permits, he knows how to manage it etc. So there won't be any stuff ups.

Did you really see him in that jersey all that much? I think we both know that answer.

I personally don't see how the locals could really hate it. Buninyong is small town and with the extra people going down to Buninyong is great for the community as people spend money to buy food, drinks, etc. It is not as big as the worlds and the same course is not shut off for as long as the worlds course was.

IT blocks off the main street so locals cant get in to the shops as easily. Minor grievance, but if you hated cycling, it would be annoying.

So? Since has what racing I or you watch been a barometer of how much exposure a rider gets? If we're talking about the average Aussie than there's nothing except the Tour that they'd watch or know about...

Its a small town yes, but its just off the fringe of a quite big one. Whilst the shopkeepers (all 3 or 4 of them) and the owner of the local petrol station might get a bit of profit out of the week, the other 98%+ of locals would generally get zero benefit out of the race. Their income comes either from working in Ballarat, etc or from their farms a bit out of town.

In a lot of ways (accommodation etc) the races are a lot better for Ballarat than it is for Bunninyong itself.

There were a LOT of businesses in Geelong that made massive losses during the World Champs. Not everyone wants a race at their front door...

Same thing applies to the Albert Park Grand Prix and the St Kilda festival. Some local businesses make money but a larger number actually lose on the events.
