Pedalling time: 52 minutes
Average watts: 410

I really do think the aussie nationals need to stop being open. Sky being able to send 5 riders including ben swift is just wrong wrong wrong.

Well I don't think it is such a bad thing that a team like sky has swift riding. Good to have a team with a few numbers who will chase the breakaway back so it doesn't survive like last year and therefore the big guns will be able to battle it out.

I agree. When I read the Mick Rogers news item it totally confused me that they were talking about Ben Swift.. I wondered if he was going to spectate or something. Open championship... They got plenty of riders to have a pure Australian championship.

Mat Hayman once won the open Dutch U23 championships. There are more than enough Dutch riders as well ;)

I don't have a problem with it as long as they're there only as domestiques. Australia doesn't have that many teams that they can afford to have only Aussies in it. Maybe one day when we have 5-6 teams that are Conti+ they can think about changing the rules.

Btw, which rider has the nickname 'Duke'?

You're not going to make me believe that the Philadelphia International Nothings are raced as hard as the Worlds. Which is what it's all about.

No, but Goss is better in a hard race than McEwen (even in his young days) and he got a podium at the worlds...

Fact is, if you're riding for a sprinter, our best sprinter is Goss. That's why I said Davis should float. If they're both there at the end, I'd be backing Goss.

Dean Windsor, I think. Was with Rapha in the UK last season and is now with Pegasus/unemployed depending on what the hell is going on there.

Regarding which sprinter Australia should bet on for the worlds then I'd say Goss. McEwen is over his top and the others aren't as fast. Keep Davis if the race is so hard that Goss isn't around anymore.
Renshaw will be leadout for Cavendish again while Goss will probably take Greipels spot.
Yep. Agreed 100%. I wonder what condition Renshaw is in though because not even beating Sutton in a gallop is strange, I would have thought.

Too many years leading out means he seems to have lost some of that explosiveness... though he beat Goss in a race at the end of last year. Generally they seem reasonably well matched. Renshaws problem is that he is so good at positioning and sprinter.

Ah thanks. However, I think its Lapthorne that has moved from Rapha to pegasus. Windsor is staying afaik with Zak Dempster and new guy Casey Munro.

Edit: Yep, thought I recalled correctly: Link .

Thanks. Looks like Gerrans, out of the Sky riders, no? Or Rogers maybe.
I thnik gerrans is targetting it. They'll be working for him. Hoping to go watch the race. btw, I posted all profiles and plotted the routes of the tt and rr course on Google maps. You can find those links on the first page.

Quite a few top riders only have themselves in the race. as we saw last year the break went up the road and because the teams are so small nobody was willing to lose riders to put on the front to chase. Sky made a big error last year having nobody in the break. They still didn't chase at all which was strange.

Forecast has dramtically changed to 24oC but overcast & possiblility of some showers

Maybe the error they made was having nobody in the RACE... would explain why they didnt chase down the breakaway. Bit difficult to chase down a breakaway in australia from London ;)

Well, I'd say Gerrans is the favourite... who else?

Anyone can win, that seems to be the nature of the race. If the break gets out then who really knows what will happen. I'd have Porte (or the legendary David Tanner?), Davis and Meyer (Garmin will have a strong team too) as strong a favourites as Gerrans. Pegasus/Fly V will also have a huge presence.

Gerrans/Rogers could well be the favourites, but it still doesn't make their chances of winning very high, if that makes any sense!

Ooooh.

No Porte in the TT... Looks like that one is staying at Garmin.

Dennis, Durbridge, Parker and Hepburn all in the U23 TT and RR.

Anyone think Matthews is good chance in the seniors?

No Lancaster... so Garmin isn't quite as strong as I thought - only 2Meyer, Bobridge and Wilson.
