Betrayed Athletics Doctor Jekyll and Lord Coe

Sebastian Coe's attitude makes a new beginning possible. Especially as the Athletics in contrast to the football itself is in crisis. Because she has been betrayed and abused in the core. A comment. Willful blindness is an evil diagnosis. In particular, if it represents a deputy in the Committee, which had to use this word to minors already for looking away at the interception of the Murdoch newspapers and in the sexual assaults of the BBC presenter Jimmy Savile. This willful blindness attested Paul Farrelly, Member of Parliament, three weeks ago, Sebastian Coe. Since this had claimed to have never even heard rumors of the manipulations in the anti-doping department of the Association, whose vice-president he was eight years. Coe wants to have never guessed that Lamine Diack, his predecessor as president of the World Athletics Federation (IAAF), through and through, was corrupt. Well it turns out that it is precisely the man was inaugurated for years, the Coe has made to his closest associates. He allegedly Coe said nothing about it, that he recommended that the mastermind behind the corruption, the agency of Coe and Coe personally for a campaign to deflect the scandal? He allegedly Coe denied that he indicated failings of the head of anti-doping department of the Ethics Committee soon two years ago? Even before this was hard to imagine that not even the television report on doping in Russian sports and bribery at the top of the IAAF, with the first German television triggered the scandal, the awareness should have reached by Coe. There must be two Coes: the clever, the Olympic Games will bring to London and organized and of the Azerbaijani dictator Ilham Aliyev zuschanzt the first European games in the world. And the dumb, who believes in dealing with Dopern and racketeers, they all go there to nothing but beautiful sport. Coes attitude is not only a culpable lack of curiosity, but little more than a hair's breadth of lies and deceit away. She makes a new beginning possible. Especially as the Athletics in contrast to the football itself is in crisis. The Fifa may be dominated by corruption; it merely acts like a parasite, to the beautiful game feeds effortlessly. The Athletics but, on the way from the core of the Olympic Games to a minority sport, has been betrayed and abused in the core. The treatment, which was prescribed to the Russian Federation, before being allowed to return to international competitions and Olympic Games, is also indicated for the IAAF: personal renewal from scratch.

Haajo Seppelt seems to be fixated on Russian doping, all the while completely ignoring decades of doping in Germany and before that, East and West Germany. This includes widespread doping in the Bundesliga, German football, by far the biggest sport in Germany. He also never questioned German biathlon, which has ties to doping labs in Freiburg and Vienna. I really don't see much of a difference between him and David Walsh. Harsh on some dopers, while totally ignoring the others.

Could you be anymore ill-informed?

Also David Walsh has a patent on being David Walsh, no one could be as bad as our David.

Together with the former Canadian swimmer Karin Helmstaedt, Seppelt made the documentary film Staatsgeheimnis Kinderdoping (State Secret Child Doping) about the perpetrators and victims of doping in East German swimming. It was broadcast by ARD. Together with Holger Schück, he published the book Anklage: Kinderdoping. Das Erbe des DDR-Sports (Indictment Doping: The Legacy of East German Sports) in 1999. It also dealt with the topic of state doping in Communist East Germany.

In 2006, Seppelt reported extensively about the doping problem in cycling. Among other things, his research led to the identification of the German physician Markus Choina as a member of the doping network organized by Spanish doctor Eufemiano Fuentes.[1] In November of that year, he was awarded the Leuchtturm für besondere publizistische Leistungen (Lighthouse Prize for Special Journalist Achievement) by the journalists’ association Netzwerk Recherche for his research, reports and exclusive revelations about cyclists Jan Ullrich and Floyd Landis and Eufemiano Fuentes.[2]

In the television report Mission: Sauberer Sport (The Mission to Clean Up Sports), Seppelt and Jo Goll documented the work of German doping controllers. The film highlighted flaws in Germany’s doping-control system and caused heady public discussions, which contributed to structural changes in Germany’s National Anti Doping Agency (NADA). The report won the Silver Chest Award 2007 at the International Television Film Festival in Plovdiv and the international Sports Movie and TV Award 2007 in Milan.[3] The film was also nominated for the German Television Prize and the Prix Europa.

Seppelt’s work was not without controversy. In mid-January the German Skiing Association (DSV) took legal action, and a Hamburg court issued an injunction against him for refusing to make a cease-and-desist declaration demanded by the DSV about suspicions that German cross-country skiers and biathletes had engaged in blood doping in a Vienna laboratory.[4] A superior court in Hamburg overturned that ruling in Seppelt’s favor, concluding that DSV had no right to demand the cease-and-desist declaration because it was not affected by the journalist’s reporting. The ruling was based constitutional guarantees of journalist freedom in cases of anonymous sources. The judgement also overturned an injunction from October 21, 2008.[5] Seppelt’s suspicion could not be proved after extensive investigations.

Forget Seppelt. Concentrate on what he was saying: that two years ago one of Coe's closest associates participated in an attempted cover-up and news management of IAAF doping positives, but somehow we're supposed to believe that Mr Cleans himself, an IAAF vice-president, knew nothing of this and took no part in it, as he now claims through solicitors supposedly acting for this close associate.

By his own assertions, Mr Cleans shows himself up as a fraud along with the rest of them.

i think the rumours are there at high enough levels...we just need a drip feed of evidence...the BBC had the balls to cover this the other night with not just a large picture of Davies in the background but a picture of Davies right beside Coe....nice :)

Ok, so really nothing came out of that. No suspensions, no sanctions, no fines, nothing. One story about Russia and it explodes. It's funny though, German state run media targeting Russian state run programs. In essence, it's govt vs govt.

Without Seppelt Contador's positive would never have seen the light of day. Contador got suspended.
But regardless, i don't think Seppelt is in anyway accountable for the judicial processes that emanate (or not) from his investigations. Some of the stuff he reported on in Germany got subsequently 'surpressed' as a result of very slow and opaque acting from the German justice department, other stuff fell outside of SoL.
In sum, I don't see any evidence of Seppelt having a political agenda. His current beef is more with Coe than it is with any of the Russian officials. He's also putting his ass on the line for two Russian whistleblowers.
That said, like you, I would love to see him expand his scope to western countries or back to Germany (soccer?).
Or if we're lucky we see new investigative journalists stand up and follow in his footsteps.
Right now he's pretty much the only journo doing anything of note to combat corruption in sport.

Funny how Foster, Coe, Ovett and Cram have never opened up about the topic despite its evident practice during their day.

Just what did Peter Coe's ruthless approach and 'cutting edge' training techniques lead him to?

Not too sure why you are repeating these thoughts... I answered both in the original threads. There's barely any mention of Gerschler and Conconi in the Martin/Coe text ... and the Conconi mention isn't entirely favourable. My other contributions to this thread are more damning of him.

The Coe/Martin book is well worth a read if sports science interests you. It's hard going mind.

Not repeating any thoughts. Just linking to old posts that not everybody may have seen and which I think contain some interesting links.

Similarly, would appreciate if you could link to the posts that you refer to above, because my memory is deserting me.
