Boonen was a domestique for Johan Museeuw in 2004 Paris-Roubaix/Ronde though. :p

and he actually hit the scene in 2002 so that's 2 mistakes in 1 post for me :p

but you know what i mean, 2004 was the first year both heavily featured in the race at the same time with cancellara taking 4th from the break which ended up winning the race and boonen 9th finishing on the group just behind the big guns of the time (PVP and Museuw)

i actually think PR 2004 was the first time i caught a glance of roubaix

Even so, if Canc hadnt have crashed Boonen would not have the record for Flanders and Roubaix. He would have had 2 and 3, but 2 and 3 is not the record, and its that record that makes his name ring out, just like the Tour for wiggins.

it's all pointless speculation of course but i think he would have 2 and 4

anyway. in 2013 Cancellara i believe
and boy do i feel depressed now.. still 5 months to go till Het Volk..

Boonen won 7 Monuments and 1 WC.

Wiggins won 'only' one Tour so far. That's the difference, Boonen has been a superstar in his races for 7 years now. He has proven himself year after year that he has what it takes. Wiggins hasn't. If he comes back next year and defeats everyone again then people will stop calling it lucky.

Don't be so blinkered. Cyclists see events like monuments as a massive deal, but the olympics is way more high profile and pressurised. Wiggo has umpteen track golds before he even turned his attention to the the tour, which he proceeded to win. I *think* we can rule out luck.

He is a genuinely great rider, as is Boonen. But if we're looking at palmares, for me, I'd consider an olympic gold more significant than a Monument win. And if we're talking luck, you stand a better chance of winning a one day race based on luck than a GT.

If Contador would have thrashed Wiggins in the TDF this year then we have to assume that Valverde would have thrashed him too. Ummmm, wait a minute...

I think you're forgetting some relevant factors in your comparison, like the parcour, the form of the riders you speak of and a crash or two.

he is right, you are obviously a sky hater. wiggins trashed piti by 42 minutes at the tour so he would have won the vuelta with 41 minutes on contador. that's pure simple logic.

Yes, Valverde would have won the Vuelta without the crash, I forgot about that.

Velonation agrees Purito is rider of the year. Case closed.

I don't know if Purito is the best rider of the year but for me he's certainly better than Wiggo, I mean ok he "lost" 2 GTs but the fact he came really close to winning 2 GTs makes this a great season, and I also like the way he won his races better than the way Wiggo won his (take a bucket load of time in the tt and defend in the mountains) I still don't think Purito is extremely exciting but at least a lot more exciting than Wiggo

Where did it say that Jrod was rider of the year? It was simply stating that Jrod was ahead on UCI points because he has been consistent and raced a longer season.

I cant take quotes for that article to prove my point too :p

'Wiggins has had a more spectacular season than Rodriguez'

If we're talking about stage races Wiggo has been the best without a doubt, but I voted for Purito because I like him more and he's won 2 classics, 2 big classics.

Why is Rodríguez winning? He came first loser and second loser, cacked it on an average stage to let Contador win the Vuelta.

Too many Wiggins haters on here.

And there were other years that Boonen could have won and crashed or was caught in team tactics. Both Boonen and Cancellara have been competitive for 8-9 years in those races and it's 3-1 and 4-2, seems clear enough.

Cancellara was more impressive in his dominant years than Boonen was in his best years, that doesn't mean he's better in general, because then he would have more wins than Boonen, he had plenty of opportunities, he didn't crash out a dozen times in those races.

Supporting Rodriguez is the same as hating Wiggins? What exactly are you "editor-in-chief" of?

you certainly mean it's 2(PR 06 and 10)-1(ronde 10) for canc and 4-3(PR 05 08 09 12 and ronde 05 06 12) for boonen :p

but according to canc fan boys the only reason cancellara hasn't won every single ronde and roubaix since 04 is because of bad team and bad luck ;)

When talking about who has more wins between the two it's important to note that Cancellara in his first years never considered himself to be a real contender for the cobbled races, he thought just TT's.

Editor-in-chief appears when you have 5 posts or around 5 posts, it doesn't mean anything.

Cancellara was fourth in 2004... Boonen won his first Monument in 2005, Cancellara in 2006. Boonen is one year older as Cancellara.
