BC, when was the last time I defended an 'obvious' doper?

I've always said, if you can't call your own out, you have no right doing the same to others. Like I'm gonna defend Pearsons. Other female track sprinters, yes, because they look and run clean times, but not her. Pearsons is in uber GDR level territory the way she is heading which you stated.

As for innovation. Plenty of medical and technical innovation comes out of Australia. But that has nothing to do with sport. For our population, per capita, we punch really hard. Especially in sport and more so in coaching expertise. Like you listed about China...why did they steal Jessica Schipper's coach and his training programs? Because they worked. Add in Chinese state sponsored medical support and yeah, winning formula.

When Grant Hackett tried to defend a Chinese girls blatant doping, you know the score of how the game is played. Even the Americans didn't do that. Some people play fair, others want it all to themselves when it comes to 'extra' assistance. UK govt removes the lottery system, their success goes south fast.

you have not.

"looking" is a pretty stupid baseline. everyone said Kohl looked clean. ofcourse. who can tell that a weekend warrior, no more skilled than A grade crit at Rundle Mall, then dopes his way to the TdF and comes in top 10, but he looks human. disregaring his native talent was Adelaide A grader.

if you wanna talk about "punching above our weight" one is still deferring to nationalist memes, and jingoism.

do you mean Ian Thorpe. I think you did, below.

Galic, you have succeeded in lowering the discourse to your level. i might be australian, but could care less about partisanship. respect to the resurgence (well, decade and a half long wrt cricket) of GB sport. Apart from Singer, Australia offers nothing on the world playing field of the academy, and intellectual contribution. we have some authors, few artists, but Gallic, PAtrick White could rightly be claimed by the Brits under your definition. Australia

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrick_White

the Adelaide Nobel Prize for lit author, is a South African! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J._M._Coetzee

The Science astronomer physics nobel winner, is a Canadian! Sorry, hes a Yank. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Schmidt hope did not get your hopes up D-Q. sure he was Waterloo/Toronto. must be conflating him with another.

Galic, you have put "us" in a bind. We cannot claim any accomplishment, or achievement, without offering deference to the true origin of achievement.

besides, the fallibility of making this a jingoistic d!ck-size competition.

you do appreciate, making jingoistic d!ck size competitions, is all what the Olympics is about, and statist propaganda for ubermensch. And you would not compliment doping programs for Xiang Liu in The Peoples' Republic. I assume the apostrope denoting ownerhip in "Peoples", must be after the "s' " denoting ownership by the bloc of peoples, not individual people. And i dont take you for a pinko commie (sic).

So, how about a rapprochement on the forum, and apologies to our British friends. Sorry from me, as an individual. not on behalf of GH, he has his own agency.

corollary: I reserve the right to poke fun at Wigans. Evans. Ogrady, and Gerrans. I will call BS when i see/hear it.

A gentlemanly post, chapeau sir.

No, I meant Hackett. Paid reporter and interviewer for Channel 9.

Channel 9 had the Olympic contract...biggest mistake I've seen in sporting broadcasting in this country for a long time. I know Channel 7 was crap in Beijing, but the other nations gave them BEST broadcast service. So all 9 had to do was match that...didn't even come close to 7's abysmal efforts.

Hackett was on the morning show they ran, with I think it was Leila McKinnon (easy job promotions when your Hubby runs the network hey!) and the Americans had just ripped into the 400 IM Chinese girl winner who beat the crap out of the rest, broke Rice's super suit record and swam the back 50m of the freestyle leg faster than Ryan Lochte did. Hackett said it was normal and defended her. Some of the most ridiculous tripe I've ever heard. If the yanks who had Leddecky or whatever her name is (chick built like a dude who is 17) and Michael HGH Face Phelps, are *****ing about someone doping, you know some OTHER WORLD crap is going down.

The only peep I've heard from Thorpe was when he was trying to qualify for London, when he was over in Dubai/Bahrain or wherever he went. Totally legit right? Still couldn't make it. I am under no illusions he was one giant pharmacological experiment. Hackett's old coach, Dennis Cottrell...shady character.

The Chinese will pop up in Brazil and win even more. It's how they role. Absent during the World Champs, then BOOM! Olympic year, they bring the pain. No need to guess how and why they operate the way they do. Even FINA's pathetic testing would pop them if they raced every year at full throttle.

they all speak from the same hymn book.

but they all are dopers. when they were winning gold i was blissfully ignorant thinking the tests conferred clean status

Trott's flying lap time equates to 11.25 over 200m, which is nearly half a second slower than Meares and Pendleton. If you think that's even nearly competitive then good luck to you!
Think how much Trott would improve if she didn't have to train for several other events and ride them all in such a tight time frame. If Trott's sole focus was on the sprint she'd be quite competitive.

Gallic, don't tell me Rice dope :D...i will never believe that coz she is too hot to dope :D :p

I'll leave Stephanie alone.

Note I said her WR time was in one of those super buoyancy suits. Her time out of the suit was a good 6-7 seconds slower. Grant Hackett was truly taking the p1ss that day. Rice was devastated because she thought she'd busted her rear end off and failed and here Hackett was defending the girl who without a buoyancy suit, a no namer, annihilated her WR from the previous Olympics (or was it World Champs).

A lot of the Aussies in London were down on where they were expected to be. How they were treated by the media and public...it still disgusts me. Most of them were just kids and they thought they'd let their country down. Stupid hyped up media down here go WAY OVERBOARD.

Rice has no reason to dope as it stands. She doesn't compete anymore. So chin up Zam.

We all learn. For some the lessons are harder than others.

Not sure that's relevant. The pro-doping observation about Trott was that her sprint times in the Omnium were competitive against the pure sprinters' performances. But they weren't. Also worth noting that the Flying Lap was the first Omnium event, and she'd had a full day to recover from the TP. This is the same gap as the sprinters had between the Kierin and the sprint qualifying round, when Queen Vic and Anna Meares were at sea-level World Record performance levels. Thus, Trott's Flying Lap wasn't "in the Omnium" as such; it was effectively as rested as the sprinters were in their qualifying round. Her 500m TT time at the end of the Omnium was over 2s down on the World Record i.e. distinctly uncompetitive.

What she could do as a sprinting specialist is interesting, as when Trott first joined the GB track programme her test results were such that she could have joined the sprint squad or the endurance squad. It's no surprise that in the Omnium, her weakest event is the Points Race, which is the longest event (20k), as she's at the sprinty end for endurance riders.

More apologists on the BBC trying to claim Ohurougu isn't a doper.
but Ihurougu is the village idiot. a verrrrry convenient scapegoat, even if she is getting support in the meeeedja.

paula radcliffe oth, bigger doper, and not one word about her.

remember, Larmstrong also called out dopers and donated sismex machines to UCI.

I know if i am a doper, this is a pretty good cover

She's not funny enough to be a proper village idiot. Though there is potential there

Who were they?

The BBC are generally not objective and looking to have any kind of reasonable discussion about the possibility of anyone being on drugs.

As long as you haven't tested positive your clean, no matter if you have a dodgy trainer or if you miss all your random tests for a year.

Adam Gemili started the day with a 200m PB of 20.30 , now ran a 19.98. Although the kid IS 19, so I will believe.
very good UK sprint performances recently, adding to Dasaolu's 9'91 100m

I think it was Kelly Holmes, only heard the first name though. Kept saying it wasn't really a drugs ban and the missed test rules were new. Funny how everyone else managed to cope with them.
