I also don't understand why people say he can't sprint at all. I'm not saying he's a Freire or Boonen at the end of MSR but he's not all that bad sprinting from a smaller group.

Also outsprinting kobolnev and almost beating Rebellin (Well eventually did? ) at 2008 olympics in an uphill sprint after solo chasing back. The guy's a monster.

I don't know about an all rounder, he can climb but he is not a climber and he sure can't sprint a la any one! Not sure about LBL either that would be a tough one for him and so would Lombardi but for sure he could win either of these. The hour record, I think the big problem is the time he would have to dedicate to it and that taking away from his road racing/training and team obligations. Love to see him try.

Mechanical problem. Brake was rubbing against the tire, same problem as Breschel had, smoother solution.

point taken, but, like I said he can climb and maybe he can win LBL but his team I think will back Andy and frank more then Cancellara at lease for this year. A GT not sure we will have to see. He is an exciting rider that is for sure.

and I think he can do well in the hilly classics too. If he trains right I mean.

Gilbert is probably in the best of the cobbles/ ardennes combo.

Okay, first, he wants to win both the TT and the 260-km road race.

Then he wants to look at Liege-Bastogne-Liege, the Tour of Flanders, the Amstel Gold (must need one for the thumb or something).

And for fun, he'll try to clock a new Hour Record.

And here I am, thinking, sure. Why not? Seriously. He could. No, seriously. As in, in all seriousness. Not being sarcastic, just serious. It could be fun watching him do it. Yes?

Sure. Guy's an amazing talent. Super hard worker too. I love how he buries himself for his team in the TDF. He'll turn himself inside out on a climb.

I think cancellara will win the world road race this year well if he's on good form... he usually is at that time of the year though. Could be an interesting year for him, a great rider, I doubt he will win lbl though but I hope he tries.

We won't know what he can do in the hills until he does it, then we'll know he could do it.

Valverde is for sure the most complete (and talented?) rider in the peleton, the guy can almost do everything.

But I don't think Canc can compete with the best in the Amstel and LBL. In that races there are many more favourites than in the RVV and PR. And most of these favourites are still very fresh and have peaked for these races. Maybe if he loses some weight he will be able to compete with them.

But the guy may surprise me!

Like i said not the best but very good, who are the best? I would say contador and andy shleck are two of the best the rest are going for one day stage wins, you can't compare them to a GT contender, can you?

Anyways i stand by my statementd and that is hard as I am an Italian cycling fan and not a spanish.

This is way after the fact, but the reason one of his teammates had a problem with their mechanical was because the mechanic drove away from the course like fans do so they could have the bike change ready for him. That's how the transition happened so fast - he knew the bike would be waiting for him.

I respectfully disagree. The Vuelta is his best chance. When I read the article today about Fabo winning Le Tour, I didn't exactly shoot my coffee out of my nose, but I wasn't sold on the idea.
