Nothing to suck on. Yes, he won the Double this year, he was the strongest.

But he also lost 6 Monuments when being one of the strongest in each and everyone of them and the Olympic time trial and Road Race by mistakes he personally made. I think that's a tougher pill to swallow for Cancellara fans. At least before this year. :p

Trololololol.

I wonder if Cancellara will target LBL next year now that he has 2 RVV en 3 PR in the bag. Since the Road Race in Firenze is his next goal this season he'll probably try to be victorious in Lombardy this year as well.

Mistakes? Well, I suppose you could say that. From our view, it sure looked like he wasn't the cleverest rider in those races. What we saw yesterday WAS some canny riding, for sure.

Experience played a part - he's lost on the velodrome twice in the past, as I understand it. The whole "fallback" to the car routine, with 30K to go, looked risky as hell, but paid off big.

He got lucky a bit, and Stybar etc got unlucky. But, that's PR! Great race.

Cancellara is an amazingly consistent and adaptable rider.

When we consider that he first came to prominence (for me anyway) by winning short prologues. Now he is the king of races over 250km.

I understand he is not everybody's cup of tea. But it is good to see riders with his panache can be successful.

I said that exact thing a few days earlier;)
You shouldn't waste your knowledge on a public forum. You should cash it in some kind of journalism.
Have you spoken with some Cyclingnews officials?

He is taking a lot of right decisions in the finales lately. Great ride today, lets hope the battle with Vanmarcke will continue next week.

How come that Contador's thread has more than 1 million views, and Cancellara only + 8000?

I mean, i know GC riders are more interesting. But strange that a guy like Cancellara isn't that populair.

Wow, I'm glad this thread I made ages ago is still going!

Today I watched the finale in the Rapha cafe in London, and people were cheering for Cancellara in the finale, made the sprint even more intense.

He did everything in this race - closed down gaps, dropped the peloton, won the sprint. I used to think that last year's Paris-Roubaix was my favourite Cancellara performance, but today might just take the cake, virtue of the impressive effort at the end, paired with some mind-bending bluffs at the expense of his breakaway companions.

1/1/2/3/2/2/3/1/1/2/1, now. Scary.

Incredible consistency.

I must say that I thought after his crash in 2012 that he might not win any more monuments. I thought he would have a hard time returning to that level and some of the youngsters looked promising. But how wrong I was, and I am truly happy for it. I still believe that he is ~5% from his best level, but he makes up for that by riding much smarter and more calculated. It seems that he has aknowledged that he can't crush his opponents on pure power anymore and as he has got okser he has grown more calm and patient, which gives him the coolness to win these tight races.

I think Roubaix will be the same as today in the sense that I dont believe he can drop Vanmarcke and there will probably be some underdogs taking chances as today. I am very much looking forward to it.

To be fair, the Contador thread is also the thread to discuss anything and everything Saxo. And it is run by someone that stalks Contador. :p

Agreed. As he wasn't able to drop Vanmarcke on a cobbled hill, dropping him on a flat pave section seems even more unlikely. I still think he has some room for improvement, so it will be interesting to see his level on sunday as well as Boonen's level.
