+1:11 loss in stage 4
Positioning/Bad shape/Abandoning GC ?

Did his earlier stage wins really give you hope for a big race like the Giro? I wouldn't expect anything big from him here. Anything he does here should be viewed as a wonderful surprise...imo.

I hold him to a higher standard than that. Hopefully, he will be better at stage 6...

He ain't overweight at all anymore.

No he looks lean now. I think the 7 kg overweight quote is being mistranslated. I think he was talking 7 kg fat mass leading to a fat percentage around 10% or so for his height / weight. Which would mean he could lose 2 or 3 kg's more to get to a fat percentage of like 6-7% and be highly competitive also in GC of a GT.

I think he can reach that level again near the end of this Giro, and we should see him flying in the last mountain stages. Spotted him today on stage at the start and he looks good to me.

No he looks lean now. :D :D :D

Hahaha, well ... perhaps he already lost some weight but he is not lean. Not yet. At least not by cycling standards.

His face and upper body looks lean, much more than it did in Paris-Nice 2014 if I remember correctly, but can anybody help me out on the legs - have they always been that big? I mean, I know he had big legs, but they still look enormous considering he is in decent shape.

Big test for him tomorrow. He has been pretty atrocious on all the MTF's so far this year, in races he won stages in, so I can't see why it would be different this time around. Hoping for the best as always for Betancur.

His legs are pretty big even though he's in shape.

We're going to do this every time he decides to chill it and not waste too much energy?

I know you love your Columbians, I do to (most of them), but this is a discussion thread. I just noted that the pattern was that Betancur has stunk it up on the MTF's where he actually was in a very good position to win both races - so its hardly surprising, but its how things are at the moment.

I doubt he will eclipse his climbing in the Giro in 2013 at any point of his career at this point. Hopefully he will surprise me. The hills are a completely other animal, he seems very good at them, but a consistent effort over 20 minutes seems to be a real problem for him and will likely be for at least the rest of the Giro.

Rushed into the Giro without the necessary preparation. Should have waited till the Vuelta.
We're 6 days into the Giro and his days are yet to come. Stop it with this nonsense.

Betancur has endured a limited preparation to ride a GT - This is fact ! - And he was a last minute addition to Moviestar's team.

The most important is just to get a GT in his legs regardless. He will be much better next year if he continues.

OMG use the word Colombia. They are not from D.C, we also respect weird danish names so please respect that.

First of all, he didn't decided anything, Unzue is there to decide. He was just dropped from the group when Astana upped the tempo. That means he's just not good at the moment. I hope that will change when the hardest and most deciding stages come.

Please forgive our friend from Copenhagen, many German-speakers have issues with Spanish names, 0=3 :D

Anyway, nobody thought Bentacur was going to be awesome from the get-go. Vedremo.

No point in going deep today. Balas back up is Amador. Betancur will have an impact later this Giro.
^^^^This. Betancur has the luxury of settling into the race and picking his stages, the Movistar team is deep enough with Amador, Visconti and Moreno. He doesn't need to ride yet, ease into the race and unleash in week three.

As long as Unzue can keep him away from the race buffet...

Except it isn't.

Really - Didn't start racing to mid to late March - Last minute addition for the Giro - You provide hard data to prove my assertion is wrong.
