I think you might be right. Teams and their managers don't have limitless amounts of patience.

Hm, I also do think the guy from Equador was supposed to race, Carapaz. Him and Betancur as late entries wouldn't hurt.

But it does look grim. If just Bananito could get his act together... I refuse to believe he is just lazy. Might be suffering from something psychological, its often problematic just to categorise those as lazy

I think you are being sensitive, a lot of people suffer from depression. Shouldn't be a tabu.

Its highly likely that he suffers from some sort of depression unless he is just incredibly, incredibly lazy which I refuse to believe

That's probably not the point. Not even trained psychiaters can diagnose, having as little information as we have.

I don't think you do. Psychiatry-from-distance is just remarkably distasteful and uninformed. Nothing to do with taboos; I'd shrink from diagnosing someone from cancer because they had a mole on their back. What's the difference with mental health? Just because it's not physical doesn't mean it takes anything less of a professional to diagnose it, and it's actually professional malpractice for a psychologist to diagnose without seeing the patient. We have no idea what's wrong with Betancur and even whether there's anything wrong at all (except perhaps lack of commitment, which isn't a mental health issue really). No point in speculating.

It's provisional, as it was in Burgos.

I only believe he's racing when I see Movistar's line-up in their twitter.

He was ill for some time during his preparation for the Vuelta and he isn't fully recovered yet.

He can focus on his son all he wants, just like any other family man, but he still needs that income. Maybe a less demanding job.

He seems to be on his way to Europe, so that's good. Hopefully he's recovered well.

He seems to be more interested in his young child then in cycling at the moment. Good choice.

The issue with that view is that minimum wage in Colombia is under $8/day. Government help on top of that won't be much. As Escarabajo said, a family man also needs to find away to provide for his kids. So I hope that he's just been dealing with illness (and that he's been thrifty with what he's made). But the fact that his family is in Colombia means that they didn't take to Spain, which isn't great news.
