Cookson, like McQuaid, is disposable. He gets paid to take the heat, while the people that run things make sure that their fiefdoms remain undisturbed. If there were going to be any (non-BS) initiatives, we'd have seen them by now.

Go on then. Name these people and explain how they hold sway over Cookson.

At a minimum (all I can think of), the federation presidents. Remember that McQuaid got a sizable number of votes at the recent election. That means a lot of the federation presidents must have liked the way McQuaid was running things.

it's not up to us posters to prove cookson is a puppet and a tool.
with the history of the sport and its management there is only one starting point: skepsis.
it's up to cookson to take that skepsis away.

i was just wondering why oldcrank posted that in a (anti)doping forum.
perhaps to mitigate or draw attention away...........

PPRUNE is the Professional Pilots rumour network http://www.pprune.org/

Everything you want to know about all things aviation. Ryanair have operated a game changer in terms and conditions for pilots, getting them to pay for all manner of things they previously viewed as perks of the job. With his sights set firmly on the unionised legacy carriers, Michael O'Leary has taken advantage of the sea of newly qualified pilots who have paid for the training and with close to £100k invested at that point, are desperate for a job. Post 9/11 the job drought for pilots lasted for many years. Terms and conditions across the profession have dropped. Needless to say there are plenty of comments on the PPrune forum that are none too complimentary about Mr O'Leary and how some view that he has changed their profession.

A poster called "Leohairycamel" would go on PPrune and bait these posters and argue the Ryanair case - it is a market out there - live with it. Towards the end of his posting on that forum, some speculated that Leo and Michael were one and the same. Others postulated that Leo was just an employee & fanboy of that style of leadership.

intriguing anecdote.

to stay offtopic: i flew ryanair once. couldn't stretch my legs. no free drinks, nothing. good grief. indeed i've been hearing more and more about the increasingly deplorable job conditions for pilots. worrying. interesting bit of background info you provided there.

so oldcrank and cookson might be one and the same... worrying.

Alright boys, back to Cookson.

So, according to Cookiemonster, the CADF is independent of the UCI.

But, the UCI tells CADF what/who/when to look for whatever they're supposed to, or not supposed to, look for.

Are you f*cking serious?

If one views the UCI as a large international organization that is in the business of selling cycling, which they keep telling us they are, then truly independent testing would scare the pants off them.

We all know the storied history of cycling, the entrenchment of past dopers in team structures and federations, the complicity of the UCI itself throughout the dark years, and known passes the UCI and feds have given riders and teams. This is not conspiracy tin-foil hattery. These are known facts. (If you p*ss about not providing links, you're either twelve years old, ignorant, trolling, or all three. These are facts.).

Now, if the UCI actually instituted truly independent and well funded testing, what do you think would happen?

Riders would be getting popped left, right, and centre.

Not good for business, and certainly not good for the image of the sport, and both of those are mandates the UCI is beholden to.

The culture hasn't changed. The teams haven't changed. Riders still do whatever they can to keep working and/or winning.

Until something changes dramatically, I'll keep enjoying the spectacle but I'm not willing to delude myself that anything has changed, "new" UCI head or not...

If Cookson was serious about anti doping, he would be keeping all samples for future testing and that would be a big announcement I would be making as Pres of UCI.

Although that might make the peloton think for a second about the risk and then realise that Bottle, Hincapie, the Garmin bunch and others kept their earnings via their admitted cheating!!!!

UCI's CADF is chaired by the former President of the UCI Anti-Doping Commission, who resigned to take up the chair of CADF,Dr George Ruijsch.

He did such a great job as head of UCI's anti doping that he was the perfect candidate for CADF! Cookson really ringing in the changes at UCI, cleanER times ahead..........

Hey Benotti maybe instead of being bitter and jealous you can write a letter to UCI HQ and Cookson will give you all the answers you are looking for.

but let's not lose sight of what bike racing is.

Its entertainment.
Ah, thats why Twentieth Century Fox is on the back of Team Sky?

aliens_vs_preator_game_icon_by_wolfangraul-d3a3or5.png

Cosssss, cycling is entertainment.

What a load of crap.

If you want entertainment go watch Idols, or any of those BS programs, dont tell me camera's on bikes in a cycling race are good because of the entertainment value.

Cookson and his buddy, you know, that Directeur Sportif who used to post here, sometimes when he had too much to drink, are trying to sell cycling to the highest bidder - worked out great for soccer and Formula one didnt it - so the 'real' cycling fans will have to pay top dollar for watching their favourite races behind a decoder or pay per view. Thats what Cookson is about.

Funniest thing is, thats what his predecessor was also about. So, tell me, what is the change?

So, if pro cycling isn't entertainment...what is it then?
Nowadays it is freak show entertainment, my point is it shouldnt be that. Cycling is/should be an sport about heroism, for romantics. Not for robots/medically enhanced junkies.

That should be Cookson's agenda. Not selling television contracts to the highest bidder.

The confluence between the UCI & Sky in their communication of transparency is oddly similar.

Cookson should put a camera in Froome's helmet, that would be some television, a bit shaky but nevertheless we would get the total Froomedawg experience.

Wouldn't make good viewing. Who wants to look at a power meter for 5 hours?

Monsieur Vayer and many of the posters

A simulcast displaying map location, wattage, and total power expended would be extremely interesting.

That would be funny indeed, point is, everyone knows those numbers. We are only interested in his powernumbers prior september 2011.

Wasnt that banned by the UCI a few years ago?
