The man should do the honourable thing and retire.

Fed up of him spoofing supporters on social media about riding into form, training hard, continuing to feel stronger etc

This rhetoric from him is just getting tiresome at this stage.

He probably gets big starting money. The race organisers‘ article on Stage 1 features him extensively. He‘s clearly carrying more excess weight than Remco is at his targeted GTs.

The three pinned news articles on the race website

Jul 27: "The opening stage of the Czech Tour was won by Itamar Einhorn, a teammate of Froome"

Jul 24: "Czech Tour: Chris Froome, three elite World Tour formations and the stars of the Czech peloton"

Jul 19: "Stars of the Czech Tour: Chris Froome"

Probably he only races because he can't refuse to race or else he'll be in breach of contract, and Israel are similarly obliged to put him in races?

Could be.

I wonder what happens though when his level has tanked to the point he has trouble finishing these lower tiered races?

Even by his standards, this seems... bad? Like worse than usual considering the names of the other riders on the startlist.

How long was the autograph line?

How many Froome autographs does Taxus want?

22 minutes lost....Very dissapointing for me. If this is the way he want to show the team they were wrong, he is chosing the bad way....hope tomorrow fight for the stage, but seriusly I doubt,,,he came here I think with 2 kilos more than a month ago and no much motivation..But if he want fo find climbs at tour of Germany he is very wrong,,,I think this is the race more suit him of the rest of the year...and he could be leader....This is not the way, Chris!

In all seriousness, after Adams heavily criticised Froome a few weeks ago, there's no way back for him. He's "done" as a pro cyclist for all intents & purposes. His team doesn't like him, want him or support him. It's basically fair to say Israel Premier Tech is actively attempting to dissuade him from extending his contract.

We're in the dark as far as the terms of his contract are concerned but 'if' he chooses to extend & continue, then what we're seeing in the Czech Tour is what awaits him over the next two years: obscure non-televised races where he finished towards the bottom of GC because he'll get zero support from anyone in the team. There are so many ways for a team to screw with a rider's preparation. It usually never happens (for obvious reasons) but I bet there's a whole variety of stuff which Adams can withdraw from Froome (or at least make his life difficult) in terms of equipment, transport, lodgings, altitude camps etc.

It's obviously now a game of brinkmanship where Froome is publicly acting like a 'pro-cyclist' & saying pro-cyclist stuff when in reality he's really just interested in the contract. The difference between now & previous years is his team knows this as well.

I am not sure whether there has been any multiple GT winner that had a such an extended period of zero relevance after their peak years. I would love to Froome write about the last 5 years at some point, but even if he writes a book, it's probably going to be a complete BS like Mein Climb.

From his Czech Tour interview
If [Vingegaard] carries on the way he did this year I don't see anything stopping him [from reaching 4 Tdf wins]
This year, he didn't put a foot wrong throughout the race, so it was an extremely impressive ride by him. I think what was most impressive is what he did in the mountains that was amazing, but I think what he did in the time trial was just spectacular. To be beating pure time trialists, guys, who are really strong in time trials, guys like Van Aert by minutes... that was quite a performance.

[My dream of becoming a five-time champion] is still there, for me, right at the back of my mind somewhere. Realistically, I know it's going to be extremely hard to achieve with the younger guys of today's generation, but yeah, the dream is always there for me. Until I retire, that's what's going to be there burning the fire for me.
First paragraph - some reality, Second ....
But is this the first time we hear the retire word ?
