Teams & Riders Cian Uijtdebroeks - From the wetlands to the top of cycling

Page 7 - Get up to date with the latest news, scores & standings from the Cycling News Community.
Terrible decision ! He is far to young (and not strong enough) to go for a podium (in the Giro) next season. Once this will become apparent, he will become a domestique in the Vuelta 24 and/or in the Tour 25. The same way Van Aert did, and still is. Working for Vingegaard, even Kuss. Later also for Jorgenson. Once a domestique, always a domestique. The "exception" Kuss was due to a combination of circumstances and of an enormous error of judgment of the teams of Landa, Mas, Evenepoel etc. It will not happen again the next few years. One exception. If Uijtdebroecks would prove the same qualitys of Vingegaard, Roglic, Pogacar. But I don't see or believe he has those qualities. Not even in a few years.

Doubtless a good decision by Visma. Take Roglic's future domestique away from Bora. Roglic will not only have to fight the Visma block..... but will be faced by "his teammate" Vlasov ....... riding for himself (for a top 10-ranking).

Ujtedbrecks did a mediocre vuelta and then is all the time crying about not having the world gifted him in a plate despite never winning anything. This seems to be a trendy temperament among Belgian talents. Don't understand why anybody would sign this guy. But then you have Jumbo - lend a bike, who are detestable and ruining our sport, so it seems the two go hand in hand. They will sign riders just to prove they can. Another loss for cycling fans.

Whoever writing the script is doing a great job.

It's incredible. Cycling is & forever will be the greatest drama in sports.

It boggles the mind that a professional team like Jumbo Visma with all their lawyers & legal experts could make a huge mistake like this, aka announcing a rider who is contracted to another team.

Either this is all a deliberate ploy (some sort of tactical negotiating manoeuvre from either party, although I cannot see how Jumbo could make everything look so formally agreed upon & signed when it wasn't the case), or someone is lying/or has lied about the finer details of the contract with Bora. Like the rider's agent, perhaps.

It is like when players in football puts in transfer request to force their way.

This is like the equivalent of that.

Whether it takes a week or so resolve this... it will likely happen.

Bora in the end will likely decide to let him go for some sort of fee from Visma. Better than to have rider who doesnt want to be there. It can cause other problems in the team.

Some really dirty business.

Yes, it's dirty business alright. Absolutely.

Some scenarios are possible here (including the one you put forward), although looking at the wording of Bora's statement re 'our rider', there's the possibility this one actually ends up in courts if Uijtdebroeks shows up in pre-season training... with Visma.

Jumbo Visma haven't retracted their announcement yet either. So we have two teams claiming to have a rider contracted to them for the 2024 season.

Cian management claiming the contract with Bora was terminated on Dec 1st.

We will see what happens.

But evidently without Bora's consent.

A) One party (I've no idea which think they have anything to gain by doing so) is posturing, knowing they are in the wrong
or
B) His management company (All Sports) claim that some sort of breach/release clause has been triggered, told Bora that on 1st Dec (or raised it earlier and gave them a timeframe to respond by that date) but Bora do not accept the validity of the claim.

But without Bora knowing, apparently...
I know Bora has scored a lot of sympathy points now that Roglic has signed for them, but surely nobody really believes that? They want money, and contrary to popular belief Jumbo don't buy riders out of their contract so they're left with a net loss since they did pay for Roglic. I would be quite annoyed as well, if I were Ralph Denk.

Yeah. All in all and in my opinion it's just not worth the drama. That is continuing to race for Bora and after to sign for Visma. If that is desired.

P.S. Reading the statement above. So the contract couldn't have already been terminated. Otherwise there would be no pending procedures involved. Bottom line Cian is still under contract, for the 2024 season, with Bora.
