If you don't know what happened, how can you say that anything is being downplayed?
It's reported that he was bullied. The bullying is being downplayed without people knowing what actually happened. People are filling in what "bullying" means and making the assumption that it isn't that bad, and he's exaggerating. While I make the assumption that when someone says adults are bullying adults, and he's leaving because of it, it must be pretty bad.

That's all we know.

Poor Cian! What has he survived and experienced... Nasty, mean WhatsApp bullying! Thank God he got out of all that alive and well.

And now seriously, what has world come to...
Adult male, professional athlete, someone says or does something you don't like, you go to them and ask it to stop. If it's making it difficult to perform your job, go to director, I told __________ to stop, didn't, I am coming to you, tell him ( plural) to stop. Thanks.
Director tells petty riders to stop bullying and pestering Cian. I have been called names in my job and also during athletic competition..
I was recently described by a 21 year old pro ..he worked really hard to tip toe around what he was trying to say.. I said " go ahead you can say that I look like Santa Claus riding a bike " everyone laughed including me. I am chubby.. I get it.. The tiny shame I feel doesn't deter me from gobbling baked goods, pizza, beer and tacos!! I can't imagine that whatever is going on is that serious and I think Team Cian is down a rabbit hole
What could possibly be said or done that Cian didn't make an adult effort to quash it?
The guy needs to get thicker skin, and if he goes to a new team, first thing asked is what went wrong over at the other squad?

This is all blowing up way too much. Cian is nothing compared to Remco. Nothing. Remco is already one of the greats in cycling and he's still very young. Cian managed to win nothing yet, not even finished on the podium. He's also very young sure and first year pro and that should tell him to shut the **** up, watch and learn. Be respectful to your older teammates, staff, bosses and press. Learn from the greater champions in your team and praise the lord to be in a team where such a champion actually races.

I thought he has a perfect scenario in Bora. He was considered as a big young talent, he was able to learn from Vlasov which he should beat easily on the road (if he really is such a talent...) in 2024 season. He got Roglič, one of best riders in the world to learn from in next 3 years. After 3 years, when Roglič would be too old, Cian would become sole leader in Bora, beating Vlasov (if he would be even there) and Roglič. That means, a 23 year old rider with great support and so many great learning experiences racing with these guys.

But no, a cocky youngster with nothing to show for it wants it his way. Older people in the team know nothing, staff knows nothing, little guy knows it all and he wants it his way with all the support from the team. On what basis? I bet people like that are hated and yes, bullied, because no one wants to work for such a rider.

Now, he tries to force his way to Visma. Maybe they can accommodate such a great champion with all his needs so he'll be able to improve his 8th place at Vuelta one day. It shouldn't be too hard. Vinge and Wout could help him a bit too, Kuss is probably not good enough. Clown.
Have you anything to say that is not entirely in the light of Roglic fandom?

The problem here is that it's been reported that he was bullied, and then that he was excluded from this WhatsApp group where they made fun of him, and we're being asked to act like those two things are one and the same. But they're not. So when the reports claim that sources confirm that he was bullied, there's a very reasonable doubt about what that actually means in practice and about what those sources actually said. Did they confirm that he was bullied, in so many words, or merely that he wasn't liked? Did those sources actually confirm that they had a Make Fun of Cian WhatsApp group, or did they say some riders had their own group where the unpopular kid wasn't invited, and where every now and then someone vented about this guy nobody likes?

I guess we're all filling in the gaps alright, except for some people it's [Cian says he's bullied] > [Examples are given] > [Wait that's not bullying] > [LOL], while for others it's [Cian says he's bullied] > [Examples are given] > [Wait that's not bullying] > [There must be something else, no one would make such a serious claim otherwise] > [It was bad]

Has nothing to do with it. It’s just extremely childish to start victim blaming when no one ever said Cian was a bully. It’s like saying that a rape victim might be the rapist because “reasons”
Cian doesn't have to be a bully to be a problem. He could just be full of himself, which is a headspace often occupied by men of his age. Sure, champions need to believe in themselves. But there is a difference between confidence and arrogance, and it boils down to showing gratitude. You think it's impossible that Cian was ungracious?

Dude wanted better stuff to win and more money, found that at Visma. End of story.
Shouldn't have done it during the off-season if he wanted the story to end there. Or he could, you know, transfer when the contract was over with the normal platitudes about a new adventure and gratitude for opportunities etc etc.

I'm beginning to think he did it like this precisely because it's the one time of year he can dominate the road cycling discussion and he was tired of waiting for his time in the limelight.

It has also been denied. You have decided (presumably based on your own preferences among teams) that one set of claims is correct, and the other is not, while speaking against others for doing precisely the same thing.
Fair point, I just find it personally weird to make the assumption that the accused party is right. I don’t have the numbers to back up if in most cases the accused or accusing party is right.

Conspiracy theory time

As most of the current detractors towards Cian are Roglic supporters it only makes sense that Roglic is involved. Roglic sought Bora out and has friends in Bora. Roglic didn’t want another young, upstart like Cian to pull a Vingegaard so had his friends start bullying Cian off the team in order for Roglic to clear his way for top support and leadership. Now Roglic gained his goal and even killed two birds with one stone of Cian potentially sabotaging Vismo by being a double agent.

Not you, as it turns out 😞

Which raises the question, did the Uijtdebroeks camp actually see those messages, and how
To ME it wouldn't matter I participated in organized sports until near my 28th birthday and banter between young sportsmen is a thing. I am sure that everything is amplified many times with technology and many times again when you find yourself in a ultra tiny group, which is professional cycling. But no matter what is said, texted or written, at the highest levels you need other coping skills. Again just my opinion, if someone was talking smack about me especially a teammate, that would have been the first place to start solving the problem. As a very young kid @10 or 11 I was beat up by a kid 1 grade above me.. Cory..and later we were on the same team and it was if nothing happened. In the Navy I witnessed guys pounding the living F out of each other, comments about mothers, sisters and girlfriends and after it was over, hands were shook, beer was drank and many, many, too many jokes were made about what people said and how they acted while fighting. To me mostly I feel disappointed in Cian for not facing the problem in what I see as a more conventional way.
I know bike racers who overcame sleeping with another's girlfriend and trust me it was ugly but everyone got over it. Plus and I gotta add this for the record.. Have you seen pro bike racers shirtless or naked? I have and bully or threatening don't immediately come to mind

I even heard Roglič was spotted in Bora mechanics truck loosening the shifters on Cian's TT bike. First they were not sure if that was really him, but videos showed an old guy wearing Visma kit with Bora helmet so it was clear it was really him.

But when he was confronted about this by Cian, he just mumbled "remember that Whatsapp group from Vuelta eeeehhhh"? So Cian decided enough is enough and called Visma to take him now.

Lol at thinking Roglič will be too old in three years. He hasn't even hit his peak yet.
