Whatever credibility Ryo had left when talking about doping went out the window when he backed Ivaïlo Gabrovski and insisted that everybody else just didn't watch enough Eastern European racing to know this great champion. I think as far as Ryo is concerned nobody dopes except Óscar Sevilla.

Even though the performance was unexpected, the TT was hilly and technical and Nairo took advantage of his good bike handling & descending skills.

If he repeats this performance in a pan flat TT one will have every reason to be extremely suspicious.

However he's no Andy Schleck when it comes to TTs.

Raises suspicion sure, I didn't expect it and didn't see too many (if any) others expecting it either, but there is a difference between this and a flat TT and as others have said if he does it on one of those then well....

agree. Its clear Movistar did a lot of homework on the TT parcous. Result:

1. Martin (Omega) 35:05
2. Quintana (Movistar) a 17
3. Intxausti (Movistar) a 32
4. Porte (Sky) a 40
5. Spilak (Katusha) a 48

I hope the young Colombian doesn't start doing 52 kph (avg) long flat TTs.

well- isn't evident how my few compatriots riding "for European Teams" get amazing results while the national team barely gets a mare stage win throughout the year's calender???

so-don't blame the riders-blame the teams "programme", the goals and approach to the sport;)

Neither Quintana or Henao are sticky little weaklings and both look like they should have a decent tt in them especially on sporting courses.

I based my opinion on gabrovski on your own clinic god christophe bassons.

only riders you can ever ridicule me with if ever caught are quintana and chaves. those I know 100% are clean. all others I may know 99%, like all riders from saldarriaga.

anyway I cam here to post this interesting and very true intervier from betancurt:

"I saw how [Joaquim] Rodríguez won last year and I wanted to imitate it," was how Betancur described his attack, although in fact he may have not watched 'Purito' in last year's Flèche, given the Spaniard attacked with about 300 metres to go.

"I thought I was going to win, it was only about 100 metres from the finish when they finally got past me," he said. "This kind of result is very important for me and for Colombia."

Betancur said that the 2013 boom in Colombian cycling, rising from sixth to second overall in the nations classification in the UCI WorldTour ranking, was due to the "biological passport. [Anti-doping] controls are far tighter nowadays and riders like us who live at altitude have more of an advantage."

Seventh in the Tour of the Basque Country this April, Betancur says that he's convinced that he's made the right move out of Italy and into Ag2R this season, despite the lack of any tradition of South American racers in the team. "They've given me a great chance and now I'm able to take part in some top WorldTour races. It's a big step forward."

Ryo specifically said Quintana was one of.the riders he knew 100% would never dope.

Then again he counts rujano as being one of those riders.

you and your ridiculous memory again. pls show me anywhere were I said rujano never doped? he may have doped ealry in his career but he's definitely been clean since bio passport, in which he paid out of his OWN money to be a part of despite riding far an non ct team in venezuela, just so he would get back to europe easier. it's more than fitting when dana luycks even said to press when they bought rujano they looked at all his values and attests, he never had ANY medical attests in his career as long as they could find, not even for cortisones, unlike most of the rest of the peloton, gilbert....

quintana has always been a very strong itt rider. he kicks so much watt per kg weight and he has very good position on the bike, add to that great bike handling, steering, downhilling and a tremendous engine and you will see brajkovic type of itt's from him in coming years on flat itt's. he was a ciolombian u23 itt champion at age 18!

http://www.cyclingweekly.co.uk/news/latest/537960/carlos-betancur-bartoli-is-my-secret-weapon.html

Betancur feels "at home" with the Italian riders in a French team because he is based in Italy when he is not back home in Colombia and his coach is none other than Liege-Bastogne-Liege (and Classics) specialist, Michele Bartoli.

"It was my old Aqua & Sapone manager Franco Ghini who put us in touch," explained Betancur, "Franco asked Michele if he would be interested in coaching me just over a year ago and he has made a huge difference to my training - he's my secret weapon! Before I was riding for hours and hours and not thinking too much about it, now my training is very specific, much more focused and he seems to know what I need to progress."

"I think the anti-doping is better and also, especially, the biological passport has made a big difference." .
