another thing that surprised me positively is how they handled the long (wet) stages. seem they have a good base afte rall(in colombia), just horribly out of shape and now after a good week of racing their shape is improving rapidly because they are so talented, especally duarte.

I agree. Duarte and Atapuma are in very good shape and improving. Pantano and Chalapud are fighters and we'll see them again in the first breaks of mountain stages (I think Quintero, Duque and Marentes could be also candidates for these breaks).

The main thing here is that colombians recover very well and day by day they will be better, so...

In my opinion Atapuma is the main candidate for the Galibier (the weather predictions are very bad, with snow, but last year he won Passo Pordoi snowing)

it seems atapuma isn't hurt much by bad weather going by the past week while duarte is known to be great rain rider. betancurt, henao, serpa, duque, pantano(he and duque are from valle where it almost always rains) and uran same thing

things have changed for colombian riders in the past decades, that's for sure

Something positive to take from week 1 at least. They seem to be improving by the day. I am hopeful for the mountains.:)

If these riders fail in this Giro, something drastic might happen to this team after this year. I hope things will get better.

They'll win at least one stage when we get into the mountains, of that, I am sure. They won't achieve anything GC-wise like Duarte and Atapuma were hoping to do, but they can still get some stages.

Can you name any untalented rider from colombia?

What can we expect from Duarte? Will he try to ride a good gc or will he go for breakaways? And what about tomorrow's stage? :)

Okay, I hope to see him in good shape. He is a very exciting rider when he is feeling good.

He is not riding in Europe or a big conti team is he ?

no, he rides in start cycling team in paraguay, ct. typical example of how just connections will get you pro contracts by various big teams in colombia. he's the brother of mauricio and cousin of alex cano. but yes, no country in the world has as much talent as colombia, it's like ethiopia in running or brazil in football. open a can and 1000 top level talents come out of it.

He apparantly had some crashes in the first week, didnt know that. But he feels good now and he is ready for the next 2 weeks!

Yes, very disappointing. From the beginning (nobody in the break) to the end (Atapuma not well, Duarte dissapeared)

But I still think Atapuma will be better and he will do great things in the high altitude climbs, which suit him very well (Galibier, Gavia, Stelvio, Val Martello).

Duarte is lost for the GC, but he could win some stages, because he is a super-class (for example, tomorrow is a good stage for him).

Los escarabajos colombianos vuelven a dominar en los picos europeos. La gran diferencia ahora es q son mas q escarabajos, son completos.

Wow, this is really the worst wildcard team I've seen in the Giro so far. Even more worse than Barloworld 2009 or NetApp last year. Okay I forgot about Xacobeo, but they lost Mosquera before the Giro.

Maybe they should've taken in their wildcard like they did with NGC Medical in 2008.

They seem to be totally out of shape, which is a shame.

Claudio Corti officially seems to be the worst directeur sportif out there. Just look how he mishandeld Froomes talent, besides all clinic related issues.

I don't think they are doing that badly. Pantano and Chalapud have both done some stuff, although not as much as it was expected from the team. But they still have almost two weeks and some hard mountains to go, so we might see Atapuma & co. creating a little bit of havoc.
