Gerro contemplates??

I also was disappointed to read of Simon Gerrans' views.

Link here.

While his right to express an opinion is sacrosanct, tis a shame he cannot see his way clear to extend the same courtesy to Mr Landis.

And that discounts all the possible benefits to the Conference and cycling/sporting fraternity/sorority in general (of Mr Landis' trials and tribulations).

Thank you to all and Martin specifically.

hats off to Simon for stating what every other rider in the bunch is thinking. Guys with no team and no contract and some has been doper coming to worlds to try and get a book deal or TV show spot..what a great way to anti-promote a great event like the worlds invite a non-racer to come there and dump on everything. I can wait to see Flandis at bike shows what will he be selling?

Some 'has been doper' arriving at the world's with all the 'current dopers', quelle est la différence?

I think you have it right. Those who dare speak the truth about doping are destroying the sport while those like Gerrans who support omerta are the real heros we should look up to. In a way, conferences on doping are nothing but a lot of cancer-loving haters that are trying to ruin a wonderful thing.

Disappointing is right. What was he thinking? Can't imagine his team is too happy to be associated with the anti-whistleblowing crowd.

It's all about marginal gains - if they can just marginally convince him to change his opinion over the course of time, then everything should be fine...

Read the article, he said he supports the conference, he never puts himself in the anti-whistleblowing crowd as you state. He said he thinks Landis' appearance will overshadow the races. He's right, it will, look at TOC. Doesn't make him aligned with omerta, He's Australian and he has an opinion, imagine that, give the guy a break.

Personally I think its going to be a great conference and Landis will be a big disappointment. He can't say much based on the the investigation and he will never risk cashing in on his lawsuits, he will be a bore.

I think you may have the math a little off..Landis has only been speaking the new version of "the truth" for a few months. If history of this assplug is an indicator he may change his story any second. Landis told another version of "the truth" for years, so he has a few to go with this version. Destroying the sport is were you are caught, call all those who caught you into question and then say you were just kidding I was lying the whole time a few years later. Like Gerrans who knows the only thing you can get from Flyod is VD,ripped off.lied to and probably bedbugs..just things you don't need at a beautiful setting like the worlds..a turn around at the airport for a complete scumbag would be fitting. Positively False is available for 1 penny on Amazon..that's because they can't charge fractions of pennies. He published that rubbish "The Real Story Of How I Won The Tour" 3 years ago. 2006 when he was popped and lied from then until a couple of months ago.

Couldn't that line be used for Landis too?

It's easy to say you support anti-doping, but an attack upon a former top pro who reveals organized doping sort of tells a different story doesn't it? Some comments have been attributed to scientists saying that Landis has opened their eyes to successful doping methods. If so I doubt he'd be a disappointment at the conference. He just won't be dropping bombshells so he'll be boring to anyone who wants their news in tabloid format.

Is Gerrans aligned with omerta? Strong words, but if he just lined himself up against one person who's attempting to blow it open...

Sure, I have no problem with that but he should not be given a break. Everybody should be skeptical of FL, he has a long history of lying and cheating and his motives should be examined at every step. I don't really care if a mean ol' doper made him do it, he fell right in like all before him. Simon deserves a break in my opinion because I believe he can know LA or ride on the same team as BW and be clean. His results look clean to me and I know of no CREDIBLE links to doping. On top of that he even says he supports the conference, seems like a top guy to me.

How can someone be "skeptical of FL" in the first place is he is not afforded the oppurtunity to speak?
He has a "history of lying and cheating" - and now he is saying the opposite - so only one version can be true.

To the blue above - where did FL say this?

This is also the second time you have said he says Gerrans supports the conference - that is not said in his quote:
''I'm a bit surprised that anyone organising an anti-doping conference around world championships would invite someone who is going to bring so much negative publicity,'' Gerrans told the Herald. ''There are probably plenty of guys out there [who] would have the same impact that Landis would. Yet he is a heck of a lot more controversial.''

''How can you expect not to hijack the event, whether it's his intention or not?'' ''I am not wasting any energy on it. I am thinking about the road and putting in the best performance possible. It's more of a shame for the event. It's such a fantastic event, and it'll have this cloud over it.''

Asked if he hoped Landis did not make an appearance at the world titles themselves, Gerrans said: ''Totally … I hope they get him at Customs and send him back where he came from.''

''There are probably plenty of guys out there [who] would have the same impact that Landis would. Yet he is a heck of a lot more controversial.''

This statement implies he supports the conference and clearly states he does not support Landis.

thats a very generous understanding of the quote

I simply said he's a cheater and should be viewed with appropriate skepticism. To anoint him truthful and honest at this point is silly. He has many outlets to speak and he has chosen to be silent, Joe Papp has found many ways to be heard.

He has a "history of lying and cheating" - and now he is saying the opposite - so only one version can be true.

Well yes, only one version can be true??? I will reserve judgement if he his truthful today.

To the blue above - where did FL say this?

Do you see quotes?

Well, this explains it...another Armstrong puppet.

Quote: Gerrans is friendly with Armstrong and that may or may not be a contributory factor in his stance. “'I'm a bit surprised that anyone organising an anti-doping conference around world championships would invite someone who is going to bring so much negative publicity,'' he told journalist Rupert Guinness. “'There are probably plenty of guys out there [who] would have the same impact that Landis would. Yet he is a heck of a lot more controversial.”"

Has Landis ever confessed to what he was using during the tour when he tested positive? As I recall he said what he didn't take, but has not said what he actually did take. I don't believe he should be shown any courtesy until he clearly states what he did. I mean, he want's to "clean up the sport" right?
