And as for all the fanboys on here bleating Contadors defence, you only make it worse trying to make baseless defenses based on the fact that he can climb hills fast, or isnt wiggo or has a nice smile. Get over it he is a convicted doper, ......

But as one poster on this forum will point out, he also has a cute dog. So that makes it OK, right ?

i disagree with most of you, i'm afraid. I read ac comments as being mostly about being tactful and neutral, and not throwing armstrong under the bus. This is not the same as supporting what la did, an expression of omerta, etc. Sure, he was wrong about the "no new tests" bit, but the 2009-10 blood results have been underplayed in the english media, and likely so elsewhere, and i don't know why anyone would expect ac to read the entire (english) reasoned-decision. Besides, technically speaking it was not a new "failed test", so he is not even that wrong.

That issue aside, what else did he say that was not true, incorrect, or supportive of a doping culture? To me he seemed to be expressing mostly sympathy for a fellow cyclist who certainly has been "lynched" in that most of his former supporters who also certainly knew la was guilty have turned on la just to protect their own interests. He might simply being showing some empathy since he too recently suffered terribly because of a doping scandal. Not everything is a cover-up or a doping scandal, and not everything is about the cycling business. Sometimes it's just a man watching a fallen peer and thinking "there but for the grace of god go i".

Showing sympathy for a guilty person's suffering is not the same as condoning what that person did.

Contador again comes out to bootlick Armstrong and the doping culture. I have been a big fan of Spanish cycling over the years, from Heras to Mayo to Contador, but I am disgusted with them and Spanish sports in general. I've defended and praised Contador here, time and time again. No longer.

They've all shown themselves to be complete frauds, fully invested in the culture of doping and omerta.
I am Spanish and I support the above post.

"Contador is an extremely foul person" couldn't be further from the truth.

I'm not really interested in what he or anybody else have to say regarding Lance because the majority of them are going to feign ignorance or be sympathetic towards Armstrong. Their motives are self-serving, I don't think it's fair to characterise them in a negative light. I doubt many of us would do different if we were in Contador's shoes.

First post in the clinic.

I very much like you, cheered for Contador. But frankly, the sound bites coming from some of the most exciting Spanish riders is making me want to turn away from the sport.

Marcel Kittel unimpressed with AC et al

"I feel SICK when I read that Contador, Sanchez & Indurain still support Armstrong. How does someone want to be credible by saying that?! "
"I mean, it makes it all worse. They should play their false game somewhere else. Or do they ride for money instead of joy?! "

Good of him to speak out, not scared to confront some of the big names in the peloton.

Well he was a Pro. in the European peloton.

I guess that is enough.

Apparently.

I have no idea why people continue to try to paint LeMond as a doper. EPO hit cycling in 91 or so? If Greg was doping, why was he suddenly getting his *** handed to him by riders who previously couldn't hold his wheel up a climb.

And finally Greg was a phenom before there were any oxygen boosting drugs for these guys to take. Who else has finished 3rd in their first TDF. LA didn't finish his first 3. And without a doping program LA wouldn't have won a single TDF.

Kittel is German, he wants to please the German media.

But I still think that Contador should keep his mouth shut about Armstrong these days.

Contador is joined at the hip with the UCI's corrupt regime. Wasn't it the UCI who first told Contador of his positive and encouraged him to keep quiet?

When the UCI is completely overhauled and the top names in cycling come out against McQuaid and demand a clean sport, then maybe cycling will have a brighter future. Until then, the charade will continue.

Genuine hellhound. If Contador had really wanted to show he's clean he wouldn't cried and sweared that he's allegedly clean — he would have just begun to lay out his blood values after every mountain stage. Why doesnt he do this? It's obviously 'cos any key stage is followed by fluctuation of hematocrit by 3-4 points. Hell. What a moronic guy.

Agree. AC's still doing the blood bags.

I'm wondering if the spanish cyclists aren't expressing sympathy with LA because it's so easy for them to relate. Contador, Valverde, Indurian are all as dirty as the day is long. Contador's never ridden for a clean DS.

It probably freaks them out that an organization that cares about doping (not the spanish authorities) could go back in time and build a case against them and strip them of their results.

Is it any wonder Froome finished 4th in the Vuelta and the top 3 were all juiced spanish riders? Guy didn't have a chance.

And you only realized that after what he said about Armstrong?

I copied this from twitter, this is what Alberto said:

LANCE IS BEING LYNCHED. WHAT WE KNOW IS BASED ON TEAMMATES' TESTIMONIES, WE STILL DON'T KNOW FOR SURE IF POSITIVE RESULTS CAME FROM HIS DOPING TESTS. WHY DIDN'T THOSE CYCLISTS SPEAK EARLIER IF THEY KNEW SOMETHING? FOR NOW WHAT WE KNOW IS WHAT HAS BEEN SAID. IF THERE WAS SOMETHING, IT'S A SHAME FOR THIS SPORT THAT IS ALWAYS UNDER THE LIGHT FOR THESE REASONS, AND NOT FOR WHAT A WONDERFUL SPORT IT IS. I WANT TO LET PEOPLE KNOW THAT THEY CAN STILL BELIEVE IN CYCLING & KNOW THAT RACES & TOURS CAN BE WON WITHOUT HAVING TO RESORT TO DOPING PRACTICES. AND THEY MUST STILL BELIEVE IN THE TDF.

Edit: It's probably not entirely correct

Yeah, blind Contador fanboys have evidence to consider me a troll. |However if Florecita does this way, it's an indicator or my 100% rightness.

I truly admire guys like Basso or even say Thomas Dekker, whose love towards cycling turned out to be stronger than crazed ego and willingness to win with any methods. The guys accepted the rules. Basso even continue to win whereas Contador simply spits in everyone's face and gets a buzz from his impunity. His philosophy is kinda 'I dope a lot. So do they. If it's not the case, I don't f~~king care'.

The frustrating thing here is that we have the biggest name in the sport standing up for the biggest fraud in sports history, rather than standing up for clean cycling.

Contador is a product of Saiz, Bruyneel, and Pepe Marti. All 3 dope cheats, all 3 frauds. This is not to say that Contador is not a spectacular talent. He is. But, at the very least, if Alberto does not want to admit past transgressions, he can stand up right now for a clean future for cycling.

I've noticed that you've not responded to people pointing out that the claim that there was 'no new evidence' is untrue.

Either you or he, are liars or very stupid or both.

I love how you act like you know him so well but fact is that even I can't say these things about him because I don't know him that well.
