Cookson is worse for cycling than McQuaid

I think its safe to say that Cookson within his first year has changed nothing in cycling. At least nothing for the better.

I would say the UCI is mostly the same as under McQ, except a little less transparent.

But Cookson has better PR advisors. No doubt.

Perhaps he can get Walsh to write his autobiography.

Agreed. He's better burying things with a little more sophistication than McQuaid did.

Cookson has the Skyboy fanbase to support him. Not even the Irish supported McQuaid.

that is so true - he was a source of embarrassment to us...cookson;s fanbase is very similar to the sky fanbase it would seem.....

Exactly. These guys should be held accountable for everything they do. Good or bad. The Skybots just support Cookson no matter what. Even when he's giving TUEs or constructing a Menchov sanction from thin air.

It would seem that, would it?

Cookson's fan base is 24 out of 42 delegates, only one of whom is British (Charles Jackson).......so you are telling me the other 23 delegates are Sky fans

That's only half the story.

To be a presidential candidate you first must be nominated by your own country's cycling club delegates.

McQuaid lost his nomination when the Irish Federation via the clubs withdraw their nomination.

A golden decade for UK sport. Started with the rugby world cup win in 2003, midway smashing the previous leaders right out of the velodrome in 2008, and two TdF wins being the icing on the cake.....

......its a shame there have to be losers.....but hey....that's sport.......all that's left for them is to lose gracefully.

A great decade

If Cookson was not british, do you think this thread would be 800 posts long? I think we know the answer to that one.

Correct - if Cookson wasn't British there wouldn't be a thread.

It needs to be said.

These tour stages in britain confirms to me that there is a huge cycling boom going on there. Every cat 4 climb looking like alpe d'huez.. its too much.

And as with any religion, the people need to believe. A sky positive would mean the british cycling empire goes down the drain, so Im sure Cookson will do everything in his power to prevent that.

And before people start talking about change. What change? Everything is the same as it has always been.

I'm not a monarchist, Benotti.......not sure why you seem so keen on begruding British success......we won loads.....get over it.

Mark L

No begrudging, you just seem to ignore that the British success came in the same manner all the others came, with DOPING.

you write formidable posts, although i can't help noticing very few of them have anything to do with doping. The majority of your posts in this thread for instance. But it would be a shame to just delete them, so maybe a moderator could relocate them to an appropriate subforum?

Just be sure to take these along as well.

i'm talking about his/her oeuvre, not single posts.
again, nothing to complain about the quality of that oeuvre, just that thematically...

Appreciate Benson going after the Tenerife story, but he's all over the place by presenting Parisotto as some sort of objective source of info:
Although Parisotto is not privy to the UCI's testing strategy – he analyses anonymous data – he laid out a balanced case over the Tenerife situation.http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/lack-of-anti-doping-testing-in-tenerife-under-spotlight
really?
This is like asking a cyclist whether he dopes. COmpletely pointless.
Benson, why not ask an independent anti-doping specialist what to make of the situation?
