Your expectations for Durbridge and Van Garderen were pretty low, I seem to remember from somewhere upthread...

Have any of the big guns started yet? No.

And I haven't said what you said. I only said I can't see Durbridge winning and neither Van Garderen. Top 5 at best. "pretty low" would mean i expect them outside the top 10 or something which I never did. Your conclusions are faulty

You implied Van Garderen's result in the Dauphine TT was due to a weak field. He was 4th then, might very well do the same today.

That would mean at least 2/3 big guns would disappoint. We'll see.

As an example, a flat 30mile/50km* time trial could be won in 1 hour exactly. Adding 25% on, gives (60/4) 15 minutes extra to get to the finish. 30 miles(50kms) done in 1:15 gives an average speed of 24mph/40kph.

Its mountain time trials which are harder, for instance the steep Plan de Corones TT in the Giro 2008 was done after several hard days in the mountains, and 6 guys couldnt make it up in time.

*Not a direct conversion but rounded numbers are easier.

Thanks for that quick tutorial.

The link reads like a rogues gallery eh?

Oh, it's okay everyone. Bruyneel has just stated that Andy's time was due to "bad luck".

Nothing to worry about.

Eurosport actually broadcast this? There's tennis going on!

They just showed Andy finishing.

Amazing bikehanding in the last 50 yards - I would not be able to keep a bike upright going that slowly.

Maybe the wind changed. Lots of fast times suddenly (of course, also by good riders, but still...)

That would still mean Kelderman is riding faster than Kyrienka who just started ~10 mins in front of him or Van Garderen 15 mins.
Can't be all wind

But ofcourse he is blowing himself up now
